B&B's website is very tempramental this morning. Alot of people must be trying to get their money out pronto. Is this the start of another run on a bank?

Bradford and Bingley were very clever IMO, they got a large proportion of the population locked into fixed term accounts before it released its bad news. ( lets face reality everybody knew the reason B+B kept launching loss leader fixed term accounts was because it needed the money.)

I'm concerned, I have about £25k sat in a B&B online savings account, it is not fixed term so can take out if needed. I know the savings are covered and should be safe but I wonder how long it would take to get at if things went badly wrong. I have tried a couple of times to get into my B&B account with no joy - surprise surprise the site is timing out.

If I did get the cash out, is it safe to have it in any bank atm?

Thank you for coming on. I've got very worried and upset because of all the negative stuff on here about B&B, all it seems from people who are not actually savers.

I have retirement savings in ISAs so know they are safe but as you say its how long it will take should it all go really pear shaped, to get the money refunded. Not needing mine for about six years I guess gives plenty of time. I'm not in a position to just rush down and get it out, or transfer to another bank.

It also begs the question - who is next?
I'm stressed enough over this - please don't add to it.

Spot on. There's hardly any doubt. Alliance and Leicester is next for an almighty share plunge and/or rescue by the government, etc.

I would also watch HBOS, as it is a major Mortgage lender

like you I don't need immediate access to the cash, but then I may do at any point as I am self employed and if I have a bad couple of months work wise I may need to dip into it.

I have had very good earnings from commission for the past year which has allowed me to clear my debts and save this cash, going from having a 'very poor' credit rating (experian score 310) a year ago to a 'fair' rating now (score 820) today and I don't want to end up going backwards.
