Sorry to those who are also in the same position- I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!!!

Thanks Linda- I will get on to it!!! xx

George does CC mean credit card? If so then I managed to clear my last one over a year ago.. I only have a £15000 loan and £3000 overdraft now.

Seaxwyn- I have the usual contracts- bt, internet, sky mobile etc. all on the lowest packages...

Our overdraft is a whopping 19.7% on £3000 so its costs us approx £40PM and we have absolutely no way of clearing it at this rate!!!
Did A&L except you with the same(ish) amount?

    xx

Could you try writing to creditors directly with your SOA to ask them to freeze interest/accept reduce payments?
Money doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful

Hi pnq, Well done on getting rid of the credit cards.

My overdraft was about £2,500, at 18.36% - and NatWest had just increased my overdraft limit to £3,750. A&L matched that limit. It was interest-free for a year and now the year is up, I pay just £5 month total for the overdraft.

To get it, you have to meet certain conditions. Your account has to have been in credit at some point in the last 3 months (I think). I only managed that by my kind sister lending me £2,500 for a few days, just long enough to get a statement.

You also have to pay in at least £500/month into the A&L account, and I think you might have to swap your direct debits to the new account too.

If you can manage these things do look into it. For me that interest-free overdraft was the single best thing that has happened in my whole saga of trying to get on top of my debts.

You can also get £50 I believe for opening an A&L account, either through Quidco or by getting a referral from someone with an account.

Hope this helps and good luck.

    Hadn't thought of that!!!

Is it something that they will take seriously? After all surely I can "make-up" figures, not that I need to of course HAHA!!!

I have once before asked my loan company if they would allow me to take a break but they don't offer breaks unfortunately..

sometimes it's just the one thing that you need to sort to break the cycle and shift everything along....good luck in finding the key to unlock this...it's there somewhere.

That sounds perfect!!! But I don't think I have been in credit for at least 2 years  Although, we had to borrow money to move house a few months back- I wonder if that took us into credit?!?!

HIya; nothing new to add - I was going to suggest either trying Payplan or a DIY DMP - have a look at the long haul DMP thread. There are quite a few peeps on the board who are doing it that way.

I hadn't been in credit for years either! I literally had a few pounds credit for a few days and that satisfied the criteria. Since I opened the A&L account my Natwest account has been in credit for all but a few days, it's a wonderful feeling being able to keep an account in the black!

Thank you- I totally agree with that!!!

When I first found this site I found "the key" (PPI on my loan) and it solved a lot of problems at the time... It seems that I have come to a stand still again... So here's hoping to another key
