Can't afford to live anymore!!!

Hi there,

I really am in a mess... Again.... Oh no wait its still the same mess, just 3 years along

What do you do when you're tied into contracts? I know half of ours problems could be sorted by leaving contracts early BUT they want you to pay up the remainder of the contract. Fair enough I guess but we don't have the money to pay up front and neither do we have the money to continue paying.

What can I do to pay off my overdraft? I have tried taking out a credit card and increasing my current loan but failed the credit checks on both :(

We are behind with council tax payments and are getting reminders but despite me asking to pay over 12 months they will not allow us to but they will consider it after they get a summons but I really don't want it to go that far.

CCCS will not help me as we are "just" scraping by and are not in "enough" debt at £15000.

I would like to go back to work but we don't qualify for childcare help so I will be paying to be at work- which just doesn't make sense!!!

Any ideas?

Sorry for the moan (I realise there are people worse off than us) but I'm out of ideas and don't want things to get any worse Oh I am a touch PMT too :rotfl:

Thank you xx

Try posting a SOA again to see if anyone has any ideas.

Wouldn't it be preferable to default on all the contracts, throw all the money at the Council Tax and then seek a DMP on all the unsecured stuff!
    any one else any suggestions?

CCCS are a bit wierd about who they will and won't help, they only tend to take on standard cases, if you don't fit that model they won't help.

I filled out the online debt remedy on CCCS and they've suggested a DMP for me and I don't owe that much either, how about trying Payplan instead? Or could you write to creditors and try and set up some sort of agreement with them yourself?

I definitely agree that it'd be better to throw everything at your council tax.

No advice regarding the contracts, I have same problem with my mobile phone, wish I could go PAYG or get on a cheaper tariff
Money doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful

Thank you all for the replies...

I'm going to try CCCS again but I think in their opinion we are "getting by" BUT its got to the point where things can only get worse for us now..

Bank_of_Slate- How do you default on contracts?

I have managed to cut down the amount I pay out on contracts each month but ideally I need some of them cancelled completely.

I can certainly post an SOA again but I may be wasting your time as I am on the cheapest apr for my loan and all the rest seem to be contracts.

My bank overdraft seems to be a huge problem too but I can't borrow any money to clear it...

Don't pay them the usual agreed amount, there are letter templates on here where you can send a token payment to show willing but the Council Tax is the most important one to keep up to!

Are any of your CC's almost clear?

I agree that you need to concentrate on paying the secured debts and any council bills before anything else, but if you could then concentrate on clearing a card they may offer a 0% incentive for you to stay with them.

Hi pnq, I do sympathise with you, we are muddling through and going backwards into debt at the moment too.

Sorry to be thick but what are the contracts you are tied into?

Are you paying a lot of interest on your overdraft? If so, have you looked into getting a current account with Alliance & Leicester, who give you a free overdraft for a year, and interest capped at £5/month after that? I have moved my hefty overdraft to A&L and that was a huge help.

Definitely post your SOA again, there will be new eyes that look at it and you never know, someone might spot something you've overlooked.

And try CCCS again. If you can't afford to live, then CCCS can't exclude you for 'getting by'. They can't help in every case (and we didn't go with them, though I did find the telephone chat useful) but many, many people on this site have found them a lifesaver so it's got to be worth trying them again.

    good luck
