If your thinking about buying contact lenses online and you have your prescription from your opticians, then you could save a lot of money but there are lots of different types of lenses and you must ensure that you use them properly to avoid eye infections. Perhaps buy from your opticians first and then when you know what your doing - go online to save money.

There seems to be so much information on here regarding contact lens assesments that I am totalyl confused.

Please cold someone clarify my rights on the following:

I went to D&A 6 months ago and had an eye test and a contact lens assesement. I was told to wear some lenses for 2 weeks and see how I got on. I came back and was told everything was fine. I then purchased a 3 month supply with the intention of making further prchases from D&A.

Since making that initial purchase I have noticed that I can buy them much cheaper online. However, I called them today for my prescription and was told that the optician has left a note on my records to say that I need a further check after 6 months. They now want to charge me £40 for this.

I need to know if I am entitled to demand my prescription for cotnact lenses even though they sa they are not fully happy with my eyes adapting to them.

I am so confused as to where I stand.

Further checks after maybe 6 months are what's known as "aftercare" appointments. They are needed to check that your eyes are still in good health whilst you are a contact lens wearer. In general most lens-users agree that they're vital: it checks that your eyes are coping with the reduced oxygen supply that comes with wearing lenses, abnormal blood vessel growth and a host of other eye-health related matters. You can't get it done online - you need to attend in person, and if your optician doesn't make any money out of you by selling you lenses, it's inevitable they'll want to charge you for those aftercare appointments. £40 sounds a tad on the pricey side though, ours charges £30 I think.

But aren't they obliged to givde me my prescription. I tried going to another optician but they told me that they would offer the consultation for free but it would take 6 months to validate it and therfore vould not give me my prescription.

    Surely this is wrong?

    Hi everyone

I am a long-term user of Acuvue advance 2 week lenses for astigmatism, and recently I have been on a trial of O2 optix toric monthly lenses - primarily because I wanted to save some money and the O2 are cheaper.

I am very impressed. I have found that the O2 holds moisture far better than the Acuvue, the surface of my eye against the lens feels rather more 'healthy'.

Also, I have found that I can wear the lens for much longer comfortably.
While I had to remove the Acuvue after wearing for a max six hours, and that was a stretch, I can comfortably wear the O2 from when I get up in the morning until when I go to bed at night, no more faffing around with contact lens solutions and holders 'on the go'.

The lens is becoming even more comfortable as I progress in the trial, and I forget that I am wearing them - a first for me. I have found that they fall to the correct position in the eye automatically and don't shift off-centre.

Finally - a definite plus point - I never used to be able to drink alcohol while wearing contact lenses, as my eyes would quickly dehydrate, with the result that my acuvue would also dry out and stick to my eyes really uncomfortably! I don't seem to have this issue with O2 - I can enjoy a few glasses of wine with no discomfort.

So, overall, I'm in the 2nd week of my trial, everything appears to be great, and I am very impressed with these lenses - I intend to ask to be given a prescription for them, assuming all is ok when I go for check-up.

Hope this info is helpful to anyone considering O2 Optix.

Yeh I use 02 Optix, they're good. I think they've changed the name to Aqua Optix now but they're still the same thing.

I just wanted to post to warn people not to use Contactforlenses.com because my mum has just been scammed!! We couldn't believe it and Martin recommends them in his article about contact lenses, which is appauling! They have terrible customer service, my mum tried to order some lenses for me and it wouldnt accept the address, so she phoned them.. managed to finally get through and then got some chinese woman on the other end who could barely speak English! She finally managed to order them on the website, and then a few days later they wanted proof of identity, such as drivers license or credit card bill! She refused to give this! She has forwarded the matter to the Channel Islands Trading standards and they seemed very concerned!

They are pulling a scam. I haven't received the lenses. She will not get the money back.

I went to try contant lenses for the first time the other day but they have to order my prescription in so I won't get them until next week (monthly's toric).

Will he give me my contact lens prescription (so I can buy cheaper online/elsewhere) to take away with me or will I have to ask him for it - how easy is it to get from them? What should I say I need it for?

Started wearing contact lenses 6 weeks ago (1 Optix Aqua and 1 Optix Toric lense).

At first they were murder, everytime i went indoors i got blurred vision, so used eye drops for a few weeks and slowly but surely things have improved but....

Still getting the occasional blurred vision and sore eyes if i go into somewhere warm like a pub or go to a concert...etc
And by the end of the month the contacts feel really uncomfortable.

Switching tomorrow to Acuvue Advance (with hydraclear) to try for a couple of weeks.

Ive read online that they have a 'higher water content' , is this what i'm needing then?

    Anyone use this brand?

    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good and trusted company or online company where I can get circle lenses?

which are primarily available in the Far East and I'm located in the UK.

They are slightly different from coloured lenses, in the sense that they have darker rims and more opaque colours for dark eyes. So far I haven't found a single opticians that sell them, nor online sellers such as lensdirect etc

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.:rotfl:

I can't remember if those were the exact ones I tried once, but in my experience yes, the ones with higher water content are noticeably more comfortable.... although how much more water they can contain is beyond me, they do make a difference.
