Wrong, Wrong & Wrong again!!!!!!!!!
What a fascinating discussion. No point made there then. Why then do most monthly and some daily disposables come in different base curves - to fit differently shaped corneas.
Daysoft base curve = 8.6
Focus Dailies base curve = 8.6
AirOptix base curve = 8.6
Coopervision Proclear base curve = 8.6
B & L Soflens base curve = 8.6
Sauflon New Day base curve = 8.7 (well, they do want to protect their business but they are good lenses, especially for night driving).I can assure you that Daysoft do not remotely approach the same fitting spec as what Specsavers use. The same Base Curve and Total diameter does not mean the same fit!
Specsavers seem to crop up a lot here. Now Specsavers operate franchises, therefore the motivation at each shop is for the individual franchisee to boost and maintain their own business and, hence, their own income.0 -
Your experience with Specsavers is probably a one off and shouldn't be used as justification for self prescribing. If you get away with it then you/they are lucky. I've picked up the problems from those that don't get away with it too many times to count.
I'm afraid I had the same experience as Treliac with Specsavers when I wanted to change from monthly lenses to disposables, which is why I went to an independent optician who recommended I try Daysoft. I attended for all my aftercare appointments where he checked that enough oxygen was getting to my eyes etc.
From speaking to friends who are ex-Specsavers customers and the people on this site, it seems the problems encountered are more than just a 'one-off':rotfl:Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I'm getting ganged up on here! The point I made was that one manufacturers 8.6 curve desgin lens can fit completely differentlt to another. The reason being different material modulus, water content, thickness, edge design, parabolar function - need I go on?
The lenses are not all the same!!!!
I don't work for Specsavers, but I know exactly what lenses are rebranded to their name. I have no interest in them.
My original point is that it is dangerous and immoral for a contact lens supplier to supply lenses without exact specification (manufacturer included) as anyone can get them in the belief that they are getting the same or equivalent product when they are not. I'm surprised that Mr Hamilton hasn't been sued yet for trying to claim that his product are the same in performance as all the others.
You don't have to take my advice and opinions, but don't necesarily take Mr Hamiltons either - he's out to make money as well and isn't the consumers hero that is portrayed here.
And while we're at it, Which wouldn't know a scientific comparison if it hit them between the eyes. They are after headlines on the media, to get folks to subscribe to their publication. Money again!

My optician has given me a pair of lenses to try. I have been wearing contact lenses for many years and the last few years I've worn monthlies.
I was checking the price of them on the net and realised they were extended wear lenses.
Has anyone tried these? What do people think?
The ones I've been given are Bausch and Lomb pure vision.0 -
I wore extended wear lens for years, it was wonderful to wake up in the night and be able to see without fumbling for my specs. I would recommend them
Unfortunately I had an eye infection (unrelated to wearing contacts) which scarred the inside of one of my eyelids which meant i couldn't wear them any longer and had to return to using dailies0 -
I have these and have worn used them for about 18 months. I could never wear regular contact lenses as there was something in them I'm allergic to but these are made of silicone (or so I was told) so can wear them. They let more air to your eyes so they don't feel as dry and I find them really comfortable.
I sleep in them but my hubby has them and just uses them as regular contact lenses. I'd really recommend them. Cheapest place I found them was Asda or Tesco opticians as also get the aftercare with them which you really need if you're going to sleep in them.:smileyhea0
