    What's no. A voucher? I dunno what voucher i was entitled to, but whatever it was, i always got a free eye test and 3 months supply with solution using that voucher even after i was 16 because i was still in full time education. The powers of my lenses also change sometimes ie. sometimes my left eye is worse, sometimes it's the same.

    Apologies for not being clear. It should have read:

    Sorry, but no.

    A voucher can only be issued.....

    I don't think understanding the NHS voucher system is difficult, it's administrating vouchers into a direct debit scheme, where monthly payments differ from the voucher value that it becomes more complex. Hence, as all contact lens wearers should really have up to date spectacles as back-up, it's far simpler to use the voucher towards that. Bearing in mind that most Opticians give some further subsidy towards spectacles for voucher holders, it usually works out in the patients favour as well.

    mrs woodbine has worn contacts for 32 years and having had several opticians during this time NOT one has ever suggested needing glasses for any reason even though her prescrition is about -8 in both eyes

    I think we should just realise that we can't see eye to eye!

    ps....the daysoft lenses seem fine...£20 for 2 months worth of daily disposables!

    my experience of Specsavers[in West Lothian] is when you walk in the door and are a certain age with grey hair you are hassled into a seat,dont ask about offers the first thing they do is say `are you on benefits` when you say no,you are asked to sit in the waiting area all this guff from them about get a pair of specs and get another free is rubbish,if you have a high prescription - 27 the specs cost you in the region of £700 + the voucher value is sweeties:confused:

    Did you say -27 ?:eek::eek::eek:

    I agree,specs are very pricey but at that level,it must be horrendous.

    Are you a candidate for refractive surgery which might bring it down a bit? I guess at that level,it probably isnt an option?

    As Nedmundo will know, i am a CL wearer and an advocate of daysoft but only for those who have simple prescriptions,have regular health checks and have a good understanding of ocular health and implications of wearing contacts.

    I do however have a pair of suitable ,up to date specs and i ensure that I give my eyes a break from CLs by wearing specs for reasonable periods.

    At -8.00 and no specs backups,I'm guessing she must wear her CLs from waking to sleeping which sounds quite demanding. Hopefully she has regular health checkups?
