FRP is Ford Racing Puma, quite simply a different beast. Take the puma, flare the archs, tune the engine and suspension and get an amazing car.

MGF or TF - Yes you'd be mad. Buy an MX-5

    FRP & Millie????

Are these different types of Puma's or are we talking about something else completely different now?
:rotfl: These are different types of PUMA. The Millie is is a Millienium, as the name dectates, was produced in 2000 and came with leather seats IIRC.The FRP stands for Frod Racing Puma. It has 1.7 engine but tuned to produce 155 BHP ( compared to the normal 1.7 125BHP), wider front and rear wings and tracks, disc brakes to the rear and larger race-spec Alcon discs/4 pot calipers up front, Sparco bucket seats, blue Alcantara trim, 17" Speedline rims. Here is a picture of the standard Puma and the scond photo is for the FRP

I know that it's something that you have to get out of your system (as I did) but IMO convertibles not quite what they are cracked up to be -
-Wife complained terribly that hair gets horribly greasy etc with fumes and general road muck
    -very easy to get sunburnt
-hood up in winter not as noise free/comfortable as proper roof.

    Have fun though.........

Was talking to a mate today who just had his 15 year old MX-5 MOT'd and was raving at how easily it passed and how marvellous it was, cheap to run etc etc.........

Did get a bit nauseating but it does tell a tale.

Had a friend who did work experience in Germany. His boss there had an MG. He claims he said it was a fine piece of British engineering, to which he replied - you'd think they'd make the roof so it didn't leak, it rains a lot in Britain - reply, that's British reliability for you.

back to the point in this thread .... I actually think the MGTF is good buy mainly due to the value. Since the demise of Rover, prices have been dropping pretty quick. As there are quite a few of these cars out there and they share engines with other MG and Rover cars, there should be quite a vast range of parts out there shoudl something go wrong.

Put some money aside for when the head gasket goes... and probably many other things too. You'd be mad to get one, unless you have money to burn.

I echoe the others... Mazda mx5 - anything but a Rover!!

I had one about six years ago and after somebody wrote my honda crx off, i was glad to get rid of the mg but would highly recomend a crx (called del sol if imported),

Think Japanese is the way to go. Although not too sure about the latest celica - they have their problems, and are not convertible either....

Think Top Gear - comes back to the MX5 - they raved about it and it won't be a money pit like the Rover (as in MG).

  • Hi

If you don't like the Puma, then I would strongly recommend the MX-5 as a second option. As old saying goes, you can't go wrong with Japanese motor. MG can be a lottery when it comes to head gasket!
