  • Update..................... I have recieved a letter from the managment company saying that they have recieved complaints aboult people making too much noise. So somebody else must have complained to them about the problem, hopefully with the notice and the letter the noise should stop!!

It is possible that there is a policy against unofficial notices being put up: you can imagine that if you put one up asking people not to let doors slam, and someone else puts one up about not leaving the junk mail in the hall, and then someone adds one about wiping your feet when you come in, so then someone adds one about the next Jumble Sale - and you have a bit of a mess!

Another thought about junk mail and leaflets: if it's not personally addressed, people might leave it thinking "Well I'm not interested, but I don't know if the old grouch below me might be interested in that so I'll leave it here for them." Not that I'm suggesting for one moment you ARE an old grouch, of course - I would HATE slamming doors at night!

as the letter doesnt speifically adress any individual it seems to me like a nice amicable way to remind all that live there of the disturbances as at times people just simply forget!

I understand that, but I also believe that neighbours who get on well and know each other feel far less irritated with each other at things like noise and habits!

The OP didn't actually answer the question if he'd been to talk to them face to face, as personally I think that's the best way to deal with any situation. Putting a note up will come across as petty, particularly if he hasn't made any effort whatsoever to speak to them.

Why do so few people seem to make the effort to get to know their neighbours?? I'm sure there would be a LOT less complaint if people did!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

what makes it worse is i have Muslims above me who won't have carpet in there kitchen, hallway or living room,

A daft question, but is there a reason Muslims can't have carpet in their kitchens?

There are marks on my ceiling where i hammer on the ceiling when i hit it with a broom

I had this problem. Cheap, badly fitting laminate in a flat where the lease states it must be carpet.

One day there were about 6 of them up there clomping about and I had enough, so I banged on the ceiling.

And the f3ckers jumped up and down and laughed.

Well I didn't. By then I was so stressed I shouted one word clearly and loudly.
    The C word :)

That stopped them. It went all quiet.

    Hi Red Ritchie

Do sympathise with you - I have similar problem with my neighbours - they are not young but they just don't care and are very ignorant - the guy works nights so when I come in from work at 6pm he swears at me for shutting my front door too loudly (though I shut it as quietly as I can) but when he comes in from work at 5am he slams all the doors and turns his music up - just an ar*se basically.

The woman is massive (not her fault maybe) but she is hardly fairy lightfoot above - however she seems the most reasonable of the 2 and sometimes smiles (either that or she's passing wind!)

Anyway point is there's no way I'd ever want to know this couple but I've had to knock the door and politely make an attempt to humour these 2 losers through gritted teeth - I've been able to mention the noise and things have vastly improved - they are now bordering on acceptable and last weekend I cut their lawn while I was doing my own(they never would themselves) and this seemed to produce good results - they put a note through the door to say thanks (spelt wrong admittedly):rotfl: but my being super sickly nice has stopped their racket.
  • Sorry if anyone has already mentioned this but have you considered contacting your local council?
in particular the Environmental Health Department, noise protection or possibly pollution teams.

They can help to deal with noisy neighbours, they would always advise you try to approach the neighbour first but if you don't feel comfortable or have tried to no avail they can often help.
Its not always the quickest process but it helps people whose lives are made a nightmare by inconsiderate people.

Couldn't really help with banging fire exits but certainly can help with excessive noise in the early hours!

I can be a bit more detailed if you like but won't bore the others with this, PM me instead!
