The wiring as originally supplied was non compliant with electrical safety standards.

Exactly which safety standard does this item not comply with?

Please quote British Standard reference number or IEE reference number.

Not that we don't believe you, but I would be surprised if Ebuyer were selling allegedly dangerous non-compliant goods.
  • Delivery - the one bug in internet shopping! Anyone seen an accoustic electric guitar, want one for my son's 7th birthday, shame the ebuyer accoustic ones dont have pickups, nice price. Thanks Grahawk for the link above, amp is good but the guitars are costly, although like most things you get what you pay for, but on this site you just like to pay a little less!

The cheapest electro acoustics cost around £120 although I think Agros were selling some off cheaper in their clearance. However I think with these guitars you need to think beyond cost. You can get away with cheap electrics for beginners. In fact electrics are great for learning on because the necks are thinner and the action (string height above the fret board) is lower which is good for people with small hands without fingers hardened to pressing down strings. One advantage of classical guitars is the soft nylon strings but the necks are very wide and not very thin.

Electro acoustics are only any good if they have a decent acoustic tone, a half decent pick up system and a reasonable acoustic amp (or something like an effects unit to plug it into). Your far more likely to be wasting money buying a cheap electro acoustic.

My first electro acoustic cost £199 and I soon found it dissapointing (and not too discerning). My second was second hand for £149 (£280 new) and was much better. It also has the advantage of a round back which makes playing much more comfortable.

For a seven year old I would perhaps be looking at a smaller half sized guitar as it would be far easier to play.
  • The amplifier is not double insulated. However the metal chassis on mine is correctly earthed. The wiring as originally supplied was non compliant with electrical safety standards.

after seeing the posts i decided to have mine checked out, and it needed a modification by the electrician (don`t ask me what, it went over my head lol)

A note for anyone buying the ebuyer violin (or any other violin kit under approx £100), cheap violins come with very poor strings. Replacing with decent strings will improve the sound a good deal. One make often recommended are called Thomastik Dominant (which will probably cost more than the ebuyer violin).

I agree 100% that these items will not be wonderful compared to more expensive ones, but as a first time beginners purchase they should be ok.

The electric guitar does indeed seam to sound very good to me and the violin, well I am not expecting that to sound wonderful for many years yet as my daughter is only 6 and has never touched one before.

I am unwilling to purchase anything more expensive as children can go off these things as quick as they get them and I would be most upset if I had spent a fortune on them.

Still looking into those earplugs though.

I too would be very surprised indeed if Ebuyer were supplying 'dangerous' goods. If the goods are checked and found not to comply with BSI standards, then they should be returned to the supplier. I have said this previously, but any modifications carried out will rescind the manufacturers liability should any subsequent injury occur.

One thing I have seen, however, is that they (and other online retailers) have in the past supplied goods sourced from outside the UK fitted with european plugs - technically illegal but the price keeps most people happy.

Ebuyer have stopped selling all electric guitars. They had been listed as being out of stock and as I was interested in the 50 quid guitar set, I emailed them about when they would be back in stock. I received a reply a couple of days later(not bad for ebuyer) saying that they will not be stocking them again which has set alarm bells ringing in my mind considering the doubts raised in this thread about the guitar's safety(and maybe not just this particular model if they are withdrawing all the guitars).
Perhaps all those who ordered from ebuyer should make an extra effort to get their guitar checked out. If they are electrically dangerous then ebuyer should, at the very least be contacting their customers to warn them.
