A pickup upgrade on a guitar this cheap is also unlikley to be worthwile. These guitars should only be bought by someone who is not sure if they will get much use out of it - like a parent not sure whether their kid will stick with it etc.. if anyone wants to get serious about the guitar I would advise them to stay away from these.
Replacing strings on a guitar will almost definitly improve the sound though and note that this does look like a bargain.
You havent seen the guitars ive got at home! lol. To be honest, ive always fancied a gibson replica and the epiphone ones ive been looking at are top dollar. Figured it might be cheaper to buy one of these for 70quid odd, then restring it and stick some decent pickups on it. At the end of the day, as long as the quality of the wood is good the i can upgrade the rest.
I agree though, that these are cheapie and the quality will more than likely reflect this and like you say, these are ideal for beginners who want to mess about and see whether or not they like the guitar before forking out for a better one.0 -

Do not be misled by the size of amp. These guitar kits can still make plenty noise. Sent my daughter out to the garage to play!0

The black one is £10 more for some reason. Is it better quality? It seems identical except for colour. I'm tempted to buy one, although I have a decent acoustic guitar (cost around £100 a few years ago) and I've never bothered to learn it. Its steel strings and they kill my fingers, too.0

I wondered why the black one is more. Seems the same to me too.0

I'm tthinking about learning to play electric guitar but know absolutley nothing about them. A couple of quick questions -
1. I'm not bothered about being able to play loud in fact I want to be as quiet as possible to the outside world at least until I am able to play that is so I was wondering do elec guitars have audio outputs for headphones ? This is so that I can listen but not subject anyone else to whatever noise I am producing.
2. What is the best way to learn without signing up for lessons? Are there any good tutorials freely available on the web?
I was quite good at playing the recorder when at school so I have high hopes
