Gordon is now getting even more tax as each increase happens,he could afford to give this back at the very least without any problem to his expenditure.

Look what the yanks pay and they complain, they refused to buy at certain times and this had an effect. The people in this country are mostly wimps, this country is awash with money and there are poor pensioners saying that they are not too badly off!!

I HAVE to go to work by car it really is the only way,i am sorry to say but someone come up with a good idea and i will join in.

who said for one day, that would obviously not get the message across, the last petrol strike had farmers and lorry drivers blocking access to refilling stations ect.

Oh no, that's not been true for a while. I just got back from Southern Italy, where it's commonly €1.50 a litre. We are now just about the cheapest in Western Europe. See http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/eupetrolprices/.

And the 2000 fuel strike did nothing. We must get used to it: it's an expensive commodity that's going to get more expensive until a genuine alternative comes along.

What a great idea ! all go on strike and don't buy any petrol.

Then all the oil companies will ship the petrol to China where they won't go on strike, and have a guaranteed market - then, when we finally realise how b****y stupid a strike was we have to pay even more to get the petrol back from China.

Yes - a brilliant idea !!! Eleven out of ten - why don't you take over from Alistair Darling ?

best alternative and the most proper way to do this was mentioned by celia H

Really good idea - it would be more of a boycott than a strike. Just suppose we agreed a national day of action when no cars or lorries - except emergency services - would move. All those vehicle/miles - quite a loss to the oil companies, and a supergreen protest - and a couple of weeks later, we do it again. And again. And again!

Think of all the nice things we could find to do that would not involve driving!

what would you eat if it happened and would you think that supermarket lorrys would not be running on that day or any lorry has stood lorry's cost money and jobs ,the last strike/protest they kept running and they always will ,think of how mush fuel they have ,the super market petrol stations would close first so the lorrys would have fuel if neaded
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff
