Hi everyone
Read Catowen's recipe for Banoffe Pie and rushed out and bought the condensed milk - however tin says do not boil unopened. Should I pierce the can first?
I once had a bad experience with redcurrant jelly and a pressure cooker and don't fancy a repeat or similar!! :eek:I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

No you don't need to pierce the tin, just make sure you keep the tins covered with water. Incidentlaly you can now buy this stuff ready made by nestle I think from asda.0

I do 3 or 4 at a time to save electricity and keep them in the cupboard - keep the tins covered with water while you boil them - its good to have some as a standby in the cupboard - yes they also sell them in our co-op for banoffi pie but it was expensive so I just boiled 3 last week. Will do me most of the summer.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

You can make condensed milk.
1 cup hot tap water
2 cups sugar
2 cups dry milk powder
6 tbsp melted margarine
Measure hot water into blender add rest of ingredients, blend for a minute, it will thicken up after standing for an hour. Can store in the fridge for a week or can be frozen.0 -

Condensed milk has sugar added to it and is sweet, sticky, syrupy and gooey.
Evap milk is unsweetened and is thin and runny0 -
I have 2 405g cans of condensed milk which I ordered via Tesco home delivery to made some tiramassu cookies but the other ingrediants i needed to make the recipe were out of stock - dont you just hate it when that happens
So....what can I do with them???? they are just taking up space in my cupboard and to be honest I cannot remember if its this or evaporated you use to make banoffi pie??
So who's up for a challenge:D0 -
Chocolate Caramel Fingers
4oz butter
2oz sugar
6oz plain flour.
Cream the butter & sugar, add the flour and stir until it binds together, knead until smooth then roll out and press into a 8in square tin, !!!!! well & bake for 20-30mins (180/350, gas 4). Cool in the tin. Meanwhile make the filling:
4oz butter or margarine
2oz sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
150ml (5fl oz) condensed milk
Place everything in a saucepan and stir until dissolved, bring slowly to the boil, then cook, stirring for about 5-7 minutes. Cool slightly then spread over the biscuit mixture and leave to set. When it's set add the topping:
4oz plain chocolate
1/2oz (15g) butter
Melt the chocolate with the butter over a low heat then spread over the caramel. Leave until set then cut into fingers, although I cut them into squares!
These are absolutely gorgeous and don't last long in my house!:o
Edit: the autocensor kicked in and replaced the word for stabbing with a fork with !!!!!! :rotfl:Dum Spiro Spero0
