We use it to make the filling for a jelly slice, and in a biscuit recipe that makes heaps of biscuits. For the biscuits I usually substitute with a homemade condensed milk recipe I have. My mother loves to tell me of the time she went to a friends house as a child and had condensed milk on bread!

Can you post the recipe for homemade condensed milk please.

    Fifteens!
    15 digestives crushed up
    15 marshmallows cut in half
15 glac! cherries cut in half
    150ml ish of condensed milk

Combine all ingredients in a bowl until it comes into a kinda crumbly lump, set out cling film with dessicated coconut and roll mixture out into a sausage on the cling film coating in the coconut. Make it as thick or thin as you like. Roll in the cling film and put in the fridge, overnight is best and cut into slices...amazing

I got it from a site, but I can't post the link? I haven't tried it in a fridge set dessert, only in baking.

    Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute
If you have run out of cans of condensed milk – here is a home made version for you to try.
    Ingredients:
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients and use as a substitute for sweetened condensed milk in recipes for pies, bars and desserts.

So there is no milk in the condensed milk recipe :rotfl: thanks for posting I will try it. I never do anything with condensed milk as its expensive this will work out cheaper as I have the ingredients. Does it make the equivalent of a can? Even better if so as I normally half recipes and this is easy to scale down.

Condensed milk, soft cheese and citrus fruit juice and zest for an orange or lemon or lime cheesecake filling in a biscuit base. Or use melted dark chocolate instead of the juice and zest for a decadent choccy cheesecake.

Condensed milk, evaporated milk and flavouring (soft fruit or ground almonds or pistachios) for kulfi (Indian ice cream)

It doesn't state but I used it as a substitute for a whole tin and the biscuits came out fine.

Has to be fudge - easiest chocolate fudge recipe ever -
    200g chocolate
    150g condensed milk
melt in microwave on 30 sec bursts stirring each time (usually takes 2 turns for me). Then pour into a tin/pot lined with greaseproof. Pop in fridge until set. Yum! I've used this as a basis to make other flavours such as Peppermint (Layer of Dark Choc Fudge, Layer of White Choc Fudge mixed with a drop of green food colouring and peppermint essence, then a further layer of Dark Choc Fudge on top! Heaven). x
