I could not care too hoots what car they drive or what they do. My OH and I are not showy people. We own or house outright, have no other debt and have quite a bit of savings in the bank. We could go and buy a top of the range car with cash to keep up with everyone else but have not. I wonder what our neighbours think as we have a Van outside our house! I would like to think that the most important thing to them is that we are good neighbours and we know what is important in life. I think most of our neighbours are decent people who are not that shallow!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I hope not you are supposed to be on a site right now with that lower class van of yours!!!:rotfl:0

Thats where you think I am..............Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

mmmm is that why you put on your "chav" aftershave this morning. Now remember and hide your van round the corner from the house and walk a little. Would not like to upset the neighbours with you having a van and all!0

I agree, I worked my a r s e off to get where I am, I want to live near people who have nice cars in their drives,
What's this thing about "nice cars"?
That seems purely to be a symptom of the "spend on credit, keep up with the Joneses" mentality.
OH and I never scream in the street, both work, in professional jobs, but have an R reg car. What on earth is the problem?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I agree neverdespairgirl. Some people are so shallow! Who the heck cares what you drive.0

Our car is great. It's small (important in central London), efficent, reliable, low-maintenance, etc. We don't feel any need to show off by spending tens of thousands of pounds unncessarily on a new one!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Unfortunately some people feel certain types of cars depict wealth - i assume from the comments that have been made on here. So Sad!0

To be fair, you dont really need a car in central London do you;)
And i wouldn't expect a barrister to be seen in a 10yr old rustbucket either, but hey ho:rotfl:
Expensive cars and wealth tend to normally be associated with each other, ie you dont see many footballers driving clapped out corsas do you?
Exactly the same with successful businessmen, royalty etc etc.
It is just a link though, i know someone that earns a 6 figure salary and drives about in an S reg jeep.0 -

It's not essential to have a car, no. And our car is 10 years old, but rust-free (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
