What about those who didn't bother getting out of bed knowing that certain lecturers were rubbish?
Hi sloughflint, I actually posted this and Gonzo quoted me.
I didn't enquire which lecturers were or weren't rubbish. My point was that, from what I saw, it was always the same people who turned up to lectures on time, rubbish or not, and the same people who didn't.
Gonzo, my younger daughter got her HND in engineering from the same educational establishment and my GS is about to graduate from there now.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I normally avoid contributing to these sorts of threads and I think perhaps I'll continue to do so. I've reread my post and it looks like I was being serious rather than flippant. I suppose I had better explain what was really going through my mind.
You see, what I quoted just tickled me.I didn't spot the thread until very late on and found it fascinating. It became quite diverse but a common theme seemed to be 'sweeping generalising statements' on the various sub-topics causing some disharmony within the 12 pages.
I just saw the quoted section and smiled to myself. I chose to spend part of my time differently preferring to learn from books late into the night rather than attend the 'poorer' lectures. I do not know or care how I was perceived but my peers would be non the wiser as to what class degree I left with unless they knew my name perhaps.
I suppose what I am saying in a particularly gauche manner about various aspects of the thread is the following:

I see this argument from both sides. I am a council tenant, who rented privately, and was officially seen as "overcrowded" by housing needs, for three years before getting a social housing property. I also work in administration for an estate agents and see what the property market is like. Locally, social housing tenants are being offered flats in new waterfront apartments. I have sympathy for all parties. All the social housing tenants I know are decent, hard working people, who keep their properties nicely, and many are very long term tenants. I live with my daughter who, because of two major illnesses is unable to work. I work full time, we pay all our bills in full apart fromt the £2.00 a week we get towards our council tax. WE ARE DEFINETELY NOT CHAVS. My daughter is educated to A Level standard and if it wasn't for her illness I am sure she would have gone on to University.
Please dont tar all social housing tenants with the same brush. !!Growing old disgracefully!0 -
I hope your daughter recovers soon, long-term illness is so frustrating for the sufferer....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
