MsB that was just the sort of reply I knew I would get lol. No offence.
I always thought bread making was "hard" work and there is a lot more kneading involved!
Maybe I should try making a batch up before I get "another" machine. I do worry about the time tho. I am a student nurse, so not a lot of free time to be OS or a good mum.
Edit: OOOOOO that sounds like I am afraid of a little hard work.I'm not, but the hand baking I tried a long time ago didn't really come out well, so I tried the BM, that was annoying so I went trumping back off to the supermarket and back to mass produced bread
Don't worry yourself - if you want to try Handmade bread and see how it goes that is fineIf not, that is too. We have to do what suits our needs resources and families
Here is the post that helped me try Handmade bread
Time wise as Thriftlady says you can make 4 at a time and freeze - you can also let dough rise overnight in the fridge - there are various options.
Or you can remove your dough from the machine and bake in the oven to avoid the hole
Or , you can learn the cycle times, and take the stuff out from the maching, remove the paddle and put the ingredients back in to bake in the machine
Just you do what ever suits you:A

I've worn out two breadmakers in my time, then switched to using the Kenwood chef + hand method. Yes, that was fine, but as I get creakier I find I've got limited energy and tolerance for standing knocking back bread at the work surface. So three weeks ago I bought another BM...the cheapy Tesco own brand one that looks very similar to the one you link to. It's been on every day since and it's just fine. Best technological advance since my last BM? It came with a little hook that you slip up the centre of the paddle and which helps you pull the paddle out. So all you have left is a small hole/slit. This I can live with. I just don't know why it didn't occur to me to make a wire paddle puller before now!Val.0

It really isn't hard work as otherwise it would have been torture to do with a whole class! I don't have a lot of free time and would describe myself as pretty lazy - so I wouldn't dream of recommending you try it if I thought it was hard work.
It's dead easy and very satisfying indeed. Go on, have a go and see what you think...let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

I have been reading the Handmade bread thread on here and I am gonna have a go tomorrow at some "propper" bread. If that works I won't open the BM and Argos can have it back.
They aren't having my new mixer tho! Keeping that for my cakes - wanted one for ages and as I have saved all year for love to shop vouchers I have treated myself! (thats how I got the BM too lol)
I love baking, makes me feel very wholesome, clever and satisfied. Especially when the kids and OH sit there with big smiles on their faces cos I have made something nice!Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -

I hear you on the wholesome, clever, satisfied note! Just got my first BM and I am in love with it! Never been very adept at the hand bread making, so its a godsend for me!:rotfl:In the middle of difficulty lies oppurtunity0 -
cooking-mama wrote: »Hello Skyelark...im hoping to get another Kenwood BM450 in October too(im still waiting on the price to drop)
What i do remember from when i had one(returned because the big sticker accross the front and side wouldnt come off...machine worked perfectly),anyway I remember the Kenwood coped realy well with cheaper supermarket brand bread flour....an earlier cheaper breadmaker i had only made good loaves when i used the more expensive Allinsons/Hovis flour etc.,so from that point of view i found it even more money saving..HTH.
I read this and tried for myself. You are right, the Kenwood turns out lovely loaves with cheaper supermarkets own flour.......bonus!
Thank you cookingmama!:TIn the middle of difficulty lies oppurtunity0 -
Has anyone successfully used the 'Quick' programme in Tescos' breadmaker? Recipes at back seem to suggest either basic or quick programme can be used but my loaf on 'quick' came out like a brick!0

No advice to give as I've never had a bread-maker but it's on my fantasy-appliance-list.
I just wanted you to know how very envious I am. *sigh*0
