Natwest- Bags of Change
Comments

I am suprised Natwest do this, I worked for them over two years ago and it has obviously changed somewhat.
Back then I couldn't be bothered checking people had accounts, i'd just change the damn money to get them out of the way!

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Thank Christ for debit cards, I hate cash and think it should be wiped out, it is risky, expensive and is not covered against fraud/loss etc, I find that all I do with my scrap in my bank account is move it to my savings account or let it build up in my current account.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

I have several bags of coins; £2 coins £1 coins, 50p coins etc, totalling about £107 at the moment, which I have been saving for my holidays. I have more in the jar but not enough of each denomination to put into bags to bank.
I have had no issue previously putting the coins into my account in the past, this weekend, tried to put in 5 bags but I was told I could only deposit 5 a week and I had already deposited 5 on Tuesday, therefore, would have to wait until this coming Tuesday to be able to deposit more.
Is this the norm with other banks too? aside from Coinstar and local shops, does anyone know where I could possibly change the coins for notes? I am wanting to buy foreign currency but when I asked Natwest if I could buy currency with the change instead ans they said it wasn't possible.
Any ideas?

couldn't you just swap the coins for notes at home and use the coins up yourself when you go shopping or pay bus fares etc .
All those coins must be change from something?0 -

There is no limit to the amount of coin you can pay in at Natwest branches. It must be that particular branch imposing their own rules.0

I bet they have a limit for personal customers
It's about £100-however...HSBC are one of the only banks to offer a Coin Machine which does not limit the amount you can put in (I put in over £250 worth of coin a bit ago-you just have to ask them to empty the machine a couple of times that's all)!! Lol
But yeah-as long as you are all bagged up then most branches will allow about £100-but if you have leftovers then wait until the next day or simply go to another branch.
I knew of/heard stories about the Abbey and Natwest rules and I think it's a bit silly really if it's true, the government and the banks are encouraging people to save and then the next minute there are few few banks in the industry making it easy for customers to place that money into their accounts. Therefore I like the idea of coin machines in HSBC.
Bear in mind-most ASDA's have a 'Coinstar' machine that will change your money for you-they take 7p from every pound but this goes straight to a charity so it's £7.00 for each £100...not bad really if you can't stand the idea of more than 5 bags a day/week lol.Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!0 -
Usually it's the building Societies that are pretending to be banks that impose these restrictions....Abbey, Halifax etc.
They are banks. There is nothing in their pretence.
When they changed from being building societies they decided not to upgrade their facilities to take on things that don't generate them as much profit.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

We don't have those machines in any of my three local branchesScousebird wrote: »It's about £100-however...HSBC are one of the only banks to offer a Coin Machine which does not limit the amount you can put in (I put in over £250 worth of coin a bit ago-you just have to ask them to empty the machine a couple of times that's all)!! Are they a recent addition? 0 -

Are they really keeping a check on a rolling basis of how many bags of coins are deposited by each customer? I'm surprised they could really keep a tab on how many in a specific day, never mind week: is there somewhere on the system which records it or is it really just based on the teller remembering you?0 -

Are they a recent addition?
HSBC is in the middle of a £400m 'branch investment program' to upgrade its exisitng 1500 UK branches and open some new ones.
I think that these machines appear as part of the 'upgrade process' - which I think has been going on since 2006..
