Natwest- Bags of Change

Morning

I have several bags of coins; £2 coins £1 coins, 50p coins etc, totalling about £107 at the moment, which I have been saving for my holidays. I have more in the jar but not enough of each denomination to put into bags to bank.

I have had no issue previously putting the coins into my account in the past, this weekend, tried to put in 5 bags but I was told I could only deposit 5 a week and I had already deposited 5 on Tuesday, therefore, would have to wait until this coming Tuesday to be able to deposit more.

Is this the norm with other banks too? aside from Coinstar and local shops, does anyone know where I could possibly change the coins for notes? I am wanting to buy foreign currency but when I asked Natwest if I could buy currency with the change instead ans they said it wasn't possible.

Any ideas?

Nationwide are also 5 per day.

I don't think HSBC have a limit (probably as they have a lot of business customers).

I would complain as all this so many bags aweek rubbish , its legal tender and the banks should accept it, and it only takes them a couple of minutes to weigh the bags to check they are ok.

shocking i hope my local bank doesnt suddenly do this

Just because it may be legal tender (any more than 20p of 1 or 2p is not legal tender) does not impose any obligation on a bank or any one else to accept it for an ordinary transaction.

I'm surprised that NatWest are not allowing you to bank several bags of coins.
Are you trying to pay them into a current account?

Usually it's the building Societies that are pretending to be banks that impose these restrictions....Abbey, Halifax etc.

my bank (natwest) let me bank what I want, usually 6-10 bags in one day every few months, but to change for notes I have to prove I have an account with them.

though as they shut at 4.30 and i work, i sometimes use barclays (open til 5.30) they just ask" have you got an account with us" i say yes, then they change it for me :-) i do have an account somewhere that I havent used since the early 90's!
