Just found this - lots of good ideas, an awful lot of which I already do. But a quick shot in the arm of inspiration goes a long way. The tips may be old ones, but they're "oldies but goodies"!

    Thanks everyone!

I've just rediscovered this thread and I'm going work my way through it again as there's bound to be some things that I've forgotten! Thanks everyone.
I thought that it was worth a bump for some of our newer members.
Can I just add my little tip? I keep a pencil inside my bathroom cabinet and as I finish a bottle or tube of something I write it on the inside of the door. I then add it to my shopping list at a more convenient time. (I would forget about it if I was dripping with water from the shower or dashing to go out:eek:)
It cleans off easily and you can also do this for more mundane items in kitchen cabinets;)
Maybe you could train the family to join in?
PS I keep a box of 'spares' so there's always a replacement available.:)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

  • I love it when ancient threads get revived, it reminds me of how enthusiastic I was when I started out on my oldstyle journey:j

    1) I would send them a link to MSE oldstylers!

2)I would put together a small fixing kit with needle, thread, screwdrivers, superglue etc; a maltesers size box with all the basics.

3)I'd buy them a pack of soda crystals and a gallon of white vinegar. Some people swear by stardrops, however.

4)Lots of glass jars for pantry storage and storing leftovers in the fridge and freezer.

5)Perhaps put together a household file with meal plan templates, budgets etc. Perhaps a list of useful websites like down to earth and tipnut, too, and tried and tested recipes.

    6) Some packs of beans and lentils.

These are all the things that have made the biggest difference to us I think.
