am i stuffed?

Hi, i'm a first time poster and i was hoping somebody might be able to give me some advice with a problem i have.I paid just over £800 for a ticket to canada to visit my aunty and now she tells me she will be moving back to England before i am due to go over.I can't transfer the ticket into anybody elses name if i could sell it on ebay and if i cancel i lose the lot.Anybody have any ideas on how i can get around this and maybe get at least some of my money back?I have a variocele so i was thinking maybe i could go to the doctors and tell him i'm worried about dvt,and could he write a letter saying i wasn't able to fly on medical grounds!I would appreciate any advice if anybody could help.
Many thanks Mickey

Have you got travel insurance to cover you for this scenario?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.

Go anyway, and have fun in Canada. In some ways a holiday would be more fun if it did not involve seeing an Aunt.

I didn't take out travel insurance when i booked but i have an ultimate reward halifax account and one of the benefits is travel insurance.I will ring the bank and enquire if i would be covered.

I doubt travel insurance would cover you for a straightforward cancellation.

As I assume you had the health problem prior to booking the flight, you are unlikely to be covered by your insurance to cancel for health reasons (if your GP was willing to write a letter in the first place).

I agree with Voyager2002 on this one, go on your own! x

You will not be covered just because she decided to move back to the UK. Travel insurance only really covers for cancellations for family/ medical emergencies.

So yes i am stuffed then! The wife wouldnt let me go without having somewhere to stay so going with a tent isn't an option.I am going to Spain for a couple of weeks two weeks before i'm due/was due to go to Canada would i not be able to blag the doctor that i was in serious pain for first week and since i've been back i have been in severe pain? That is only 2 and 1/2 hour flight twice the distance will surely only be worse.

If you want to lie to your doctor, and sacrifice any goodwill that you have with him in the future when you are truly ill, go for it. I couldn't do it.

Edit: Without going into medical advice, a friend who is at a true risk of DVT is allowed to fly as long as she has regular injections in the affected area - what would you do if your doc offered you this?!!

I experience pain after a 90 minute car journey so i may well suffer after a six hour flight. As for the injections the doctor knows i have a fear of needles and wont have them.
