i agree that any claim re risk of DVT would be likley to fail due to heparin injections. I have these every time I fly more than a couple of hours and never had a prob ( i had a dvt a few yrs ago- not related to flying). Also, I have managed to get a good travel insurance policy through my employer which covers preexisting conditions but I very much doubt a standard policy would cover you , without a hefty extra premium which you presumably haven't paid.
I totally agree you should get the injections ( its a really small needle!) and go anyway - you will have a great time!

We went to Canada in October and it is fairly cheap once you are over there. Best bet would be to get your Auntie to find some cheap accomodation deal for you and like other posters have said-have a great holiday. Hire a car for your visit (with a sat nav) and enjoy the freedom of driving along great roads with little congestion and marvel at the the cheap price of fuel . Stopping when you feel like it at the cheap roadside diners.
It WAS cheap until the value of the £ dropped 10% against the C$. Now approx C$1.90 to £1
The additional cost of SatNav on a hire of more than a week is usually more than BUYING it.
Petrol might only be 60p/litre in Canada, but most cars still have a 3.5 litre engine (or bigger  ) that typically do 20-25mpg and therefore use approx twice the amount of fuel an equivalent-sized European car does as a result: Marvel how a half price tank of fuel only gets you half the distance...British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
£800 for a plane ticket to Canada; you were definitely robbed.0

A bit of a generalisation!!
Depends a lot on airline, availability, class, time of year, where in Canada!!
Even the low-cost carriers for a non-refundable seat to Vancouver are over £600 for a standard seat and over £800 for an upgraded seat in July and August!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I have asked if there was any chance of even a partial refund but there is none.My aunty has said that she can't afford to give me anything.I've thought about going and seeing if i can find somewhere cheap to stay for a week.It makes more sense to pay an extra couple of hundred for a weeks lodging than to write off £800.Thank you to everyone that replied
I agree that it does make sense to spend an extra £200 and take the holiday in Canada...something similar happened to me and you can get the airport tax refunded but thats about all/ To my regret I did not spend the extra £200 :eek:0 -
You really can't spell, can you?!The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
