Afternoon all
Well I spent nearly all day out in the garden yesterday -clearing out tubs that had finished and cutting away lots of the excess foliage on my tomato plants and spreading them out better so that the sun/warmth can get to all the masses of tomatoes i have on :T I have 30 tomato plants of various sortsthey are all doing brilliantly .. I just pinched a big san marzano one off and ate it like an apple...OH MY G*D it was delicious..all warm and sweet.. can't wait to get the rest off:D ..Should have a few i can fetch of for our salad tonight:j
Got some more carrots, salad leaves and pak choi set.. i set some carrots at the beginning of the week and they were through in 2 days  it is sooo warm and humid at the moment -so i thought i might as well use the tubs/seeds as i allready had them -still have loads left mind:rotfl:
Have discovered 4 more courgettes on, and 3 on another plant that come out pear shaped..oooh and plenty of patty pan on too :j
My 4 butternut squash plants look really healthy and are filling with buds -can't wait to see how many fruit i get off them
3 more cucumbers came off yesterday -3 different kinds so they all taste different and loads more baby ones on.....
right enough waffle... hope everyone else is doing well -im amazed mine have survived after being left on their own for 3 weeks whilst we were away -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Here's my veg patch, though these were taken a couple of weeks ago and its grown a bit more since then!
We're getting our first toms of at the moment (lovely!) plenty of salad and potatoes, loads (too many!) of courgettes, beetroot and just about to start taking the spring onions.
There's some sweetcorn and squashes in there too, though it will be a while before they produce anything I think.
Oh and not forgetting the chilli peppers and sweet peppers in the greenhouse. All I seem to hear is blah blah blah!0 -

Advice, please!
My butternut squash has flowers. Do I need to do anything to make sure it sets fruit, or can I leave nature to take its course? The plants are outside on my balcony, and although I have seen the occasional bee, I wouldn't say we were exactly overrun with them, in case this makes a difference.0 -

You can take a male flower - the ones with the long stems- and shove it into a female flower - the one with the immature fruit behind it- who needs the birds and the bees???:rotfl:Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

Sorry to be a nuisance, but how else will I learn?
Since my last post - thanks for the advice, Nodwah - have been out watering & feeding. The courgettes have several flowers as well. Is it the same procedure for them?
I recall an earlier post re courgettes that female flowers have a "baby courgette" behind the flower & male ones don't (yikes! I think all mine are male so far: do I have the world's first gay courgettes?).
How do I differentiaite the flowers on a butternut squash? I've never seen one of those growing before.0 -

You're not a nuusance, we're all here sharing ideas and experience!
All the squash family are the same (courgettes, sqash, pumpkins etc) really when it comes to flowers, they start off producing the male ones before the female ones arrive. Don't know why. Just give it time.
I've only just begun picking my first few courgettes in the last fortnight ( I'm in Scotland), maybe if yours are on a balcony it might be a bit cooler and windier and therefore later into fruiting.Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0
