I got my big pot for my pumpkin plant today and that cost me £3.99 which is not that bad. The pumpkin seeds were free from a work mate of my dads. He said his daughter doesn't have the time to grow anything now so I got pumpkin, radish, lettuce, beetroot and pea seeds for nothing :T. I also picked up two huge troughs (sp?) for £3 each that I am going to grow lettuce in (the dog has ruined all but 5 of the ones in the ground so far  ) aswell as more carrots, radish and more beetroot in.
My pepper plant has 5 peppers on it so far; 2 of which over the next few days will certainly be ready :j .
I really need to get a pic or few up in the next few days of my vegetable garden.
Got to sow my pumpkin seeds, more beetroot, more carrots, radish and the lettuce as well as plant the strawberry runners coming off of the 3 strawberry plants I have :D . Oh and also have to thin out the sweetcorn at some point.

chou_123 - the courgettes grow above ground. Just the same was pumpkins, marrow and butternut squash do. The plant will flower and that is where they will 'fruit' from so to speak.

I've got a small pot on my sunny window ledge with about half a dozen pepper seedlings, ie the seeds have germinated (thanks Mrs McCawber) and now I have a pot full of little green Y-shapes, about 3/4 inch high.

If Doom_and_Gloom is harvesting peppers in a matter of days, am I too late to transplant my seedlings out on to the balcony so they'll have to go in the bin, or do you think it might be still worth a go? Same applies to 2 very sturdy looking butternut squash seedlings a few inches high.

If you already have the seedlings then you should be fine. My fiancés ma has pepper seedlings at the moment and they are growing like mad still. The fact that the plants have grown into seedlings is uaually a good sign :T (if the conditions are not right they usually refuse to grow from my experience) so you should be okay as I said.
That's for any seedlings and not just peppers. I hope the conditions stay right for you :).

Thanks for the encouragement D & G. I'll get them out there at the week-end. Still not used to the what to plant when and what should be ready for harvesting when, side of things yet.
Maybe I'll get peppers this year, after all. At 48p to 98p each in the shops, growing my own can only be a good idea, and I even got to eat the pepper first that gave me the seeds! How thrifty is that?

brassic, did you plant marigold near the toms for a reason? i heard greenfly dont like marigold etc so i put ones near my toms and peppers but the greenfly got to one of my pepper plants (luckily i spotted it on my daily inspection).

Yes, like you to keep the greenfly off the tomatos. Won't work now, was considering going and getting some already grown as my tomatos are flowering now :T Well done for catching and sorting out your pepper plant!

Jtb your garden is looking great - makes me wonder though if I'm gonna have enough for even 1 dinner, I've hardly got any compared to you!

Brassic ....... your garden looks great too ! I'm sure you will have plenty to keep you going - think we've kind of overdone it ! lol It's our first year too so been a bit of a 'sow it and see' experiment which has so far worked great ! There's still a bit of time left to sow things (we just check the seed packets at local garden centre to see when they say to plant). I've just sown some sweede and going to do some cabbage (MIL says i'll be ok if I do it tomorrow !)

I wanted to grow more things (potatoes etc ) but we just haven't got the room at the moment (hubby digging out a new bed this weekend for my swede, parsnips and a few other things that I can't decide on yet ! lol)

I'm kind of enjoying 'escaping' to the greenhouse in the afternoons/early evenings while dinner is cooking - even if it's just to check on everything !

Keep the pictures coming everyone !

    :rotfl: Hi Everyone
I have been loving this thread and all the pictures of the veggie plots. I ordered raised beds two weeks ago and they finally arrived today (should have been a two- three day delivery but thats another story) Can't wait to get things going. Your posts have given me some brilliant ideas. Once I've got the beds up and filled in the next couple of days I'll get some pictures up. I know it's too late to plant some things this year, but if you have any tips of what I can still get away with let me know.

This is the first time I've had may own garden so I'm really excited:T

Once again thanks for all your lovely posts and advice
New house, garden and kitten. oh my!

Ancalime you can buy seedlings of plants that are too late for you to grow yourself if you want a certain plant that you can not grow now. You should find tomato, pepper etc seedlings around at your local plant nursery. They have a lot of information you may be interested in as well. Or you could see if your local free-cycle has any seedlings you are after as I’ve heard that they do come up from time to time. You may get away with onion sets (I planted mine at the end of May early June and they are showing now and were only 25p which is why I risked it to be honest. I’m not sure you would get the same results though but it may be worth a try if you can get them rather cheap like I did.

Some things you could still do are carrots, beetroot, pumpkin, squashes, radish, lettuce, peas, courgettes (just) and spring onions for just an example. There are others you could grow now also. It just means a slightly later harvest time is all as it would be considered the succession sowings to most people at this time. Hope that all helps you out :).
