    • whoops!! sealed pot opened!!! for holiday stuff, £360, an i BLEW it:D
  • Clean it as normal, wipe til nearly dry, finish drying with a microfibre cloth ( poundland). Keeps them shiny and smear free and the cloths are almost indestructable unless you melt them or wash them with fabric conditioner.

We've just had a new stainless steel oven fitted and the service engineer who installed it told us that the best way to keep it clean and free of finger marks was to put a small amount of Johnson's Baby Oil on some kitchen tissue and rub it all over the steel, buffing it up and rubbing off any surplus oil. This apparently works equally well on stainless steel hobs, microwaves and stainless steel sinks. I'll give it a try and see if it helps eliminate some of the other cleaning products I currently use.

    Hi Primrose,

Baby oil is recommended by many Old Stylers for cleaning stainless steel. There's an existing thread on cleaning stainless steel that may give you some more ideas so I'll add your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

  • whatever you do DO NOT use flash lemon wipes on your stainless steel. I got a bit giddy cleaning my kitchen door fronts and did my brushed steel splashback aswell and now it is pitted with rust spots that won't come out
Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j
  • Apologies if you all already know this! My stainless steel sink had rust marks on it and I couldn't get them off. I won't use Cilit Bang type stuff and this morning DD1 had cleaned her teeth downstairs because her sister was up in the bathroom so I thought I would have a go with the toothpaste and it cleaned the sink better than I have ever seen it - it looks brand new! Just used the toothpaste on a dry microfibre cloth!

    I didn;t think SS rusted - that's why it's called "stainless"?

I'll add your tip to the existing thread where it will help others :D

Try Astonish Cookware cleaner for any rust stains - works on my stainless steel saucepans.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • I can help you there. My job is to restore stainless steel that has been damaged by fire or vandalism.
To restore and remove discolouration I use quickleen-s from steelcleaner.com this will work on all brushed stainless steel and is used in the catering trade. if you then want a polish I would suggest the untimate40 stainless steel cleaner from stainlesssteelcleaner.co.uk these should work for 99% of problems. baby oil is illegal to use in commerial kitchens as it is a petroleum base product that should be kept away from food area.
If i can help in any other way post a reply
