I clean my stainless sttel sink and drainer with bicarbonate of soda, but I'm not sure how that would work on mirror shine stainless steel utensils
  • My kitchen is really tiny, so my mircowave, toaster, kettle and oven get pretty dirty really quick. Splats from the cooker end up on the mircowave, but where moving that onto the wall, mounting it. But it needs a good scrub 1st. If id know stainless steal would of been this awkward to clean i would of got something totally different.

If you have satin finish stainless steel, you work along the grain so as not to scratch it if you use something like Bar Keepers Friend. You can't use that on the mirror finish stainless steel though.

I just tried baby oil on some of our saucepans. Seemed a great idea, got rid of the watermarks then rinsed through to make sure no trace of baby oil was left. DOH what was i thinking :) Water marks have now returned so now i have them in soak in water and white vinegar :)

When I first bought my le creuset stainless steel pans, I was horrified when they sometimes discoloured or got watermarked. I rang the helpline and the girl told me to rub half a lemon over the discolouration and then rinse the pan. It worked, so every now and again I do that.

I'll try that next time i get a lemon.

However the vinegar works too :) now have lovely, non watermarked stainless steel pans :)

Just pop some white vinegar in a cool pan, wash around the pan with the neat vinegar then fill with warm water and let stand for a few minutes. Rinse, wash and dry and bingo, all back to normal :)

I've got a really bad stainless steel hob that needs cleaning (we're talking carbon strata here) - any thoughts?

I have a bottle of some sort of hyper-chemical cleaner lurking under the sink, but I'd much prefer to be non-chemical if at all possible - I've yet to truly enter the realms of vinegar solutions etc, so some pointers as to the best thing to use would be great :)

Is there anything useful here - cleaning stainless steel.

For the burnt on marks, I'd cover them with a damp cloth to soften, then the worst should come away.

I'll add your question to that thread later, to keep suggestions together.
