Hmm I spoke too soon... I'm now getting some strange "AVG COM" messages each time I go to shut down my computer...

I've been using AVG for a long, long time, but I wouldn't recommend the upgrade to the free version of 8.0 yet - especially if you have Vista.

7.5 does the job just fine for now. Wait until all bugs and issues are resolved until installing 8.0.

I have seen a number of posts on other forums saying the new version of AVG anti virus software is no longer free. This is rubbish in fact they offer even more free now. This is one of the best anti-virus packages available and it is free!! why pay for Norton?

This is the link for the free edition http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

Thanks although I do think its worth reading this thread just to see the problems people are having or not having with it.

uninstall v7.5 and install v8 instead. Use this link for the free version. The best way to install is to download and save the installation file. Then disconnect from the net and remove 7.5. Close down any other security systems you may have running and then double click the file you've just downloaded. When complete, re-connect to the net, reboot your PC and AVG will automatically update itself.
