Golly look at how the prices have changed sine 2004, I shall put my thinking cap on and have a 'thunk'
:):) probably Y/S veg to make into soup that with perhaps some rice/pasta chucked in to 'bulk' it out a bit.I don't eat bread, so not too much of a problem .Even the humble tin of baked beans has gone up three fold since then

Since 2004 when this thread was started many more food banks have opened up and the chances of being sanctioned have increased stopping benefit payments.
Many food banks can be visited on an emergency basis until the benefits are back in payment then money can be used to buy food.
That will give you about 3-5 days worth of food worth about £12 per person for as many people as required.
See http://www.athriftymrs.com/2014/07/what-is-in-a-food-parcel-from-a-food-bank.html
The £1 in your pocket can be kept and possibly used for a missing ingredient if required if you're within walking distance of a shop.
Also, since 2004 many more people now own a smart phone as a standard phone.
Yesterday, I purchased sausages from Tesco for £1.50...that £1.50 will be refunded by the app Checkoutsmart so the sausages are effectively free. There's plenty of free food on that app.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

500g spaghetti is still 20p
Combined with 2 (grated) carrots at (apparently) 4p each
An onion for 12p
And a tin of Sardines in tomato sauce for 34p
74p
Add a 400g tin of Rice Pudding for 15p for afters...That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Next Step: Bathroom renovation booked for January 2021

How about a tin of rice pudding for breakfast 15p a tin of basic vegetable soup for lunch 24p and a tin of spaghetti bolognese at dinner 15p a couple of bits of fruit with the remaining 46p for a snack, woefully short of a days calories needs & nutrition, but I dont think it would be possible to fill that criteria on a £1 anymore.0
