Tesco Have New Directive!!

Hi,
probably posted in the wrong place and I shall no doubt get my wrist slapped but I decided that this might be well placed on the GRABBIT section because the items in question will soon disappear once you all read this. Also I suspect it'll get greater readership on here so here goes.
Today I went into Tesco's and purchased some items and in amongst the items that I bought were two packets of weetabix.
When I placed then on the conveyer I noticed one of the boxes were damaged and if you know what weetabix are all about then that would leave only crumbs, I think you would agree. However the box was only damaged in the corner.
"Excuse me!", I said to the checkout girl, "could you get these changed for an undamaged box, please?"
"O.k." she said with a smile, "But would you not prefer to have them for half the price?".
"oh, okay then", I replied and then she went on to explain that it is now the policy of TESCOS to offer damaged items at HALF PRICE because of all of the wastage.
Now I can see a lot of MSEer will suddenly become a little butter-fingered as a result of this but lets hope that we don't completely take the p!!s. It'd be a shame if they stopped this, wouldnt it!
I can see Elvis looking for a broken bottle of scotch, now.
anyway. Tuck in, you lot.

Whats the betting that Tesco's aren't extremly forth coming with this information. I can not imagine that this will happen in my store. Each time I get a refund for a mispriced item I feel like I am personaly ripping the cash for the purse of the under paid and over worked CS ladies!
Anyway i'm off the T's tonight so fingers crossed i'll get something half price. Thanks.0 -
Yup, they are a little hopeless at communicating these things to staff sometimes.Like my avatar, took the photo myself with the free digital camera I bought from boots with all my free points! I love moneysaving.0

I have that section too, but you are lucky to see a decent discount.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Can't see this lasting long.....imagine the possible abuse. Not that any upstanding MSE'rs would deliberately damage food on the way to the checkout.
(Now, where did I put that little toffee hammer I used to have?????? :rotfl: )Herman - MP for all!

I have been getting damaged goods reduced at the tills for years now.My son told me to ask for a reduction if the goods were damaged as they were told they could do this.He was working on the tills at the time.Little dents in tins can also be reduced.Never pay more than you have too0

Well I tried and it didn't work, I can't say i'm surprised. I picked up a box of Quorn nuggets from the freezer, it was really covered in ice but I put it in the trooley anyway. By the time it got to the checkout the ice had melted the box was really soggy (I didn't do it on purpose though). I asked the lady ifI could swap it for a different one as the box was damaged and she just called someone over to swap it.
We also have a reduction shelf for damaged items, the discount is usually so low its hardly worth the hassle fo having a split box ect. Oh well it was worth asking, never mind. I think if it was a tin or something and I had chosen it on purpose then maybe I would have had some luck.0 -
I've asked my store manager tonight and he has never heard of such a policy.
I work in waste in my store and my thoughts on this are that your store proably has high wastage, they have therefore decided to reduce any damaged items half price so that these don't have to be thrown out.0
