I used to be a courier.
Before any delivery is signed for it is acceptable and expected for the package to be opened and its contents checked. Eat your heart out Superman!:ATry saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
I would just try to contact the sender and inform them of the mistake and then they could take it from there. Hopefully, they would suggest I keep the champers and enjoy!0

I'd inform the company by phone if it wasn't going to cost me or by email, there's no way I could just keep it, even if I did like champagne! If I wasn't asked to return it I'd donate it to a raffle or similar.FAIRTRADE NOT FREE TRADE

I'd give the company a quick call to say they'd made a mistake, stick it on the side and if they don't bother to collect after a week or two, I'd put my feet up in the garden, pop the cork on the freshly chilled bottle and enjoy it with a friend or three!!0

I'd stick it in the fridge and wait for my compensation money to come through from the damaged cricket bat lawsuit and then crack it open.0

I would make every effort to send it back short of actually paying to do so. I know I sound smug but I don't like the stuff!
Me too. I'd ring the company concerned and tell them that I believe it has been sent in error and I will return it if they send someone to collected within 14 days, after which it will be disposed of:beer:. (Would probably put it aside to give as an Xmas/Birthday/Anniversary present as I'm not that keen on it either).
Just think how you'd feel if you were the sender of the gift.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

This usually only happens with businesses or for large/expensive packages.
While I've always checked deliveries at work, I rarely check packages when at home, and if I get one of those tickets put through the letterbox because I was out (normally the case since they deliver while I'm at work), I usually find that the counter staff won't hand anything over until after you've signed for it.
I would contact the company who sent it, rather than the courier company (unless they are the same thing), there should be some sort of return address, to let them know it had been sent to the wrong address. If they wanted it back, they would have to pay, and if they said to keep it I would.
I couldn't drink it unless I knew that Deidre was getting some too.0 -

And I manage the receipt office of a large corporation; we always mark items as unchecked and do not open them till they get to the internal addresse, in fact us doing so invalidates the guarantee on many high end goods and spares. Obviously you weren't at our end of the market as that's not what happens with our deliveries. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

You know it's not meant for you so if you drink it your a thief. If you can't send it back inform your local police and they will hold it, then if it's not claimed you can claim it and drink it or do anything you like with it. Simple.0
