lol I get your point!! ha ha
wonder if that will be available on the new card. actually it won't
but my point is many people apply in branch and then don't bother - you wont get the £43 there0 -
I work in IT and find that as electronic systems become more advanced and security systems become more sophisticated, there is a small community of nay Sayers who will not budge unless you kick their ar$*e in to the 21st century, and their is also a few who don’t want systems to change because it will expose their inadequacies as an individual and they will feel threatened, I say bring it on and expose the nay Sayers and upset as many of them as possible, if it changes to the advantage of the majority it changes because it is an improvement on the last system, come on now stop being sad and complaining about stuff that is not relevant.

The main complaint is about 0870 numbers, so don't use them. Option 1. get the equivalent number off saynoto0870.com.
Or if that fails, Option 2. Dial the head office number or any number you can get (for credit cards there is often a plain number for card loss if all else fails) and just say that you can't dial 0870 numbers from this line as they are blocked. Can they give you a geographic alternative or put you through. Quite a few business PBXs block 0870/0845 because in effect they are low cost PREMIUM rate numbers. When 0845/0870 cost ~x10/x20 a call to USA how is it not premium rate? 5p/10p/min vs 0.5p/min on 18185. You don't have specifically say that 0870 is blocked because your hand won't dial it :-).
Or Option 3. Phone the USA office if they have one (I frequently do this when all else fails and explain it is cheaper!).
If everyone did this then the companies would make a loss from 0870s and stop using them.0 -
Hmm, I am not the one whining, have I struck a nerve Mr Steve!
Wondering why a discussion about CC companies providing a premium rate number and then deliberately keeping customers talking is technophobia.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Here's a different spin on this one, whilst it is true that an 0870 makes a small amount of money for a company did you know that the extra you'd make by keeping everyone talking for an extra minute is vastly outweighed by the increase in cost resulting from requiring more people to answer the same number of calls but with a longer call length?0

So what are you saying, they are doing us a favour?
It appears these numbers will be no more from this autumn.

I'm not saying they're doing us a favour but I'm trying to make the point that this myth that companies deliberately try to make calls last longer to increase profits is simply not the case. There are far easier ways to gouge money from customers such as increased interest rates (as most issuers are doing).0
