if you use your halifax card online they have that new Halifax secure thing .... for a reason. and people moan about that!
There should be no attempt to sell insurance (Credit Card Repayment Cover) over the phone if the card has been applied for in branch as in the branch the adviser gives advice on insurance, where as on the phone its non advised and needs questions around protection would have already been asked.
If on the internet, it could have been that the customer did have a need for insurance, yet they didn't see anything on the application regarding it, so they can take it up at activation stage. If don;t want it just say politely.0 -

I work in IT and find that as electronic systems become more advanced and security systems become more sophisticated, there is a small community of nay Sayers who will not budge unless you kick their ar$*e in to the 21st century, and their is also a few who don’t want systems to change because it will expose their inadequacies as an individual and they will feel threatened, I say bring it on and expose the nay Sayers and upset as many of them as possible, if it changes to the advantage of the majority it changes because it is an improvement on the last system, come on now stop being sad and complaining about stuff that is not relevant.

I have a few cards used purely for stoozing purposes which have never been activated. Upon receipt the shredder has duly been fed !0

I don't work in mortgages anymore YB - reshuffle in the company:P
Yeah if a BT is done then activation is not required.
But, I mean why would someone go through a full credit score, not to use the card at all? apart from your good example0
