A neutral... great...

Tbh, this type of thing is exactly why I dont use eBay all that much. There's far, far too much dependency placed on feedback. A perfectly smooth really good transaction can all go wong just because of someone either making a mistake when leaving feedback or someone isn't willing to accept what feedback was left for them.
Like I said on another thread, feedback is a joke. It's a farce now and is no longer a straightforward way of ascertaining a seller's trustworthiness and decency.
There's also a big divide (imo) between seller attitude and buyer attitude and I think it's wise to recognise that.
It's all sooooo much simpler just going to a shop.

Has to be said.. if someone phoned me about some neutral feedback I'd left, not only would I hang up.. I'd then report it to eBay.
What would the OP do in response to a neg? Send the boys round?
Put simply, I'd speak to them to discuss why a neg was felt justified, and what I could do to resolve any issues. I believe it is called customer service and communication.
A point that seems surprisingly lost on many people on here....!!
And what exactly would you report the seller for? Trying to solve a problem?!!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
I have never left a neg, don't want to and always try and accentuate the positive.
I have to say that I can understand where the OP is coming from - you want to do your best and protect your situation. You want to ensure that the transaction went okay. I think that is a great thing. Your posts on here have been very balanced and informative.
However, someone RINGING me up rather than emailing would seriously freak me out! People have different thresholds and comfort zones and that would seriously take me out of mine.
I do hope you get through to them and they agree to a mutual withdrawal, as it sounds like they were really TSFE, but just trying to put another point of view.Always another chapter0 -

I understand your point.
I just dont agree with your methods.
You do sound like a decent caring eBayer without doubt, but there's a fine line between trying to ensure a good service and going too far in an effort to do so.
Sorry if my posts annoyed you earlier, I meant no offence. We cant all agree about everything. :beer:Herman - MP for all!

I agree that the feedback system has become a farce.
My attitude when buying is the same as when I go to the shops. I will buy from whichever supplier is cheapest. If they accept my payment and hand me the goods in a timely manner, and as per the terms of sale laid out at the beginning that is all I care about. All this rubbish about attitude etc on the part of the seller is an irrelevance.
There have been times that I have been stung by VAT charges, greater than expected delivery etc. My attitude is this (and I feel buyershave no right to anything more than this): If I have made a mistake reading the description, then I pay up, and swallow the loss. If the description is wrong, I pay only what is demanded in the description and no more (unusual, because ebay are good at working these things out).
If the postage is excessive, SEP (someone else's problem -- namely ebay's -- I only look at the final figure including delivery). If the seller is guilty of fee avoidance, "meh" is my attitude -- I'm not losing out, ebay is, and they're big enough to look after themselves.
Dealing with idiots is far more of a problem as a seller than as a buyer. I've received two negs -- one was a retaliatory for a neg I sent when I realised the guy was a scammer (justified in the end), the other a retaliatory for the heinous crime of leaving a neutral for non-payment (cheque lost in post, buyer refused to resend).
In both cases you simply leave a robust defence of your case and leave it at that. Nothing further to discuss really -- negs and neutrals are rare and not worth worrying about unless you get a lot of them (which suggests the problem is at your end anyway!!).0 -
If I left a neg or neutral I wouldnt mind someone sending me a message asking why but I would mind a telephone call as It would put me on the spot having to explain yourself to the seller though if I had left one of these I would have first contacted the seller to try and sort it outNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. I don't understand all these posters who mention neutral or negative feedback being left "by mistake".
A large printed notice appears on the screen if you try to leave anything other than a positive which points out the fact you are about to leave said feedback and reminding you that it is permanent.
How on earth can this be seen as a mistake?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Neg 'em, I did when I had a customer leave a neutral and a comment about a problem with the order. My neg said you should always contact the seller about a problem before leaving feedback. I think that was fair. I did have a neutral left with a glowing comment so just assumed the were a plank and gave them a neutral back.0

I was a new user once, I left neutral feedback on someone because the item wasn't as I expected. Got an immediate negative from the seller - that was the last time I bothered with that.
Got a new account fairly swiftly.0 -
I once left a POSITIVE for a seller, who retailated with a neg. I was NOT amused, so i opened a dispute just to annoy him. He didn't answer it and i got my £470 back!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Was well worth the neg saying i leave malicious feedback without checking facts.... :rotfl:Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!
