Who leaves feedback first?

This helps everyone in the community know what it's like to deal with that member.'As far as I'm concerned the transaction isn't over until feedback has been left by my buyer and I have done the same thing. I always offer to refund items so unsatisfaction (with the item at least) should never be an issue. If you want to PM me your eBay ID I'll add you to my blocked bidders list so you never need worry about buying from me!0

Aiadi and Wig - Sorry if my comments have annoyed either of you - this really appears to be an emotive subject that I underestimated when replying.
I really think the issue here is not with buyers or sellers but with eBay not spelling out what to do. I'm no crook, I only buy and sell baby items for the most part.
Life is too short. Can you please look at this site and I hope you'll agree.

There had been numerous floggings of the subject, I'm sure, but I have never participated, so here's my tiny view.
I sell a few, buy a few. As a seller I went through a phase of leaving feedback for the buyers just after payment. Until this one bloke replied to my courtesy 'your item is on its way' email with 'what item?'. He had no idea what I was talking about. I had to send no less than five emails explaining about how he bid, paid and was sent the item in question. Eventually he conceeded that okay, he did buy it, and can I leave him positive feedback!! He made me laugh, but nervously. I said not till you tell me you're happy with your purchase. Eventually he emailed saying he got it can he have f/b? So I had no choice but to leave a positive. Guess what? He never returned the favour!
When you get people like that it worries you.
As a buyer I always leave feedback as soon as I am happy with the item received.
I do agree the system should be changed... and with enough pressure...:wall:0 -
Perhaps as a solution it could be that feedback is given by both parties, but only shows after both parties have left feedback, that way neither will know what the other one left and they will hopefully be more honest in their judgements.
I too have never discussed this before, it's my first time in the ebay section.
Off topic....the cameron story is V bad. I thought when I read "grave robbers" they had taken the coffin, but it appears that wasn't what they meant. Can anyone explain why it is happening? They should put CCTV up somewhere. Unbelievable. If it were me I'd be looking for a place to be there and hide and wait with a camcorder to record who is doing it.0 -
I started buying and selling on ebay 12 months ago and left feedback once buyers paid me but over the last few months I had loads of problems with new ebayers not leaving me feedback as I had left them some so I was improving their feedback record and they left nothing for me so now I leave feedback for buyers once they leave some for me.
I gave a buyer a negative recently for buying an item and did not bother contacting me or making payment after 2 weeks so I gave him a negative and I noticed he was buying a few things off people and not paying so when he was getting negative feedback he was just leaving negative in return and I hate idiots like this and they should be banned from ebay0 -

I'm going to suggest my idea to Ebay.
Seller and buyer both submit feedback in private, other party can't see it, and it doesn't get shown or counted until both parties have submitted feedback.
This would solve all the problems because you are supposed to be giving your views of the other person and this HAS NOTHING to do with what that person thinks about you.0 -

Good point masonic, very good point, but if people reported the seller to ebay surely they would pull the plug on him just as they do now. The only drawback I see is as you say whilst he is being reported/investigated the red marks won't show up.
Your argument would also hold if they forced sellers to f/b first, then a con man would just not f/b
I think if buyers who had been conned were to report then Ebay could act quicker on it as there would be new guidelines to the staff at ebay because they would all be aware of the problem you have mentioned.0 -
As a seller when I first begun I used to leave feedback right away but now I wait until the buyer has left me it. The transaction is not complete until the buyer is happy and confirmed that they have received the goods.
The reason I changed is this, one buyer from the USA tried to con me by filing a claim to paypal saying I sold them bootlegs, I did no such thing. By this time I had already left her positive feedback so you see why sellers should wait. The transaction is not 100% complete until 45 days have passed with paypal, then they can't claw the money back!0
