I had done no such thing, I am lost when it comes to finding things on Ebay. I was simply trying to get you to give a fair post because you posted what they tell buyers to do without posting what they tell sellers to do and then you used that to somehow justify your actions.

they tell both seller and buyer 'After you make a purchase or sale, remember to leave feedback for the eBay member you bought from or sold to. This helps everyone in the community know what it's like to deal with that member.'
So your arguement before of quoting ebay advise to justify your position holds no water.
As far as I'm concerned the transaction isn't over until feedback has been left by my buyer and I have done the same thing. I always offer to refund items so unsatisfaction (with the item at least) should never be an issue.
The age old saying that "if everyone did this" there would be no feedback for anyone, with everyone waiting for the other to f/b first.
If you want to PM me your eBay ID I'll add you to my blocked bidders list so you never need worry about buying from me!
No thanks, maybe I'll enjoy making you wait for f/b one day.

Aiadi and Wig - Sorry if my comments have annoyed either of you - this really appears to be an emotive subject that I underestimated when replying.
I really think the issue here is not with buyers or sellers but with eBay not spelling out what to do. I'm no crook, I only buy and sell baby items for the most part.

Life is too short. Can you please look at this site and I hope you'll agree.

There had been numerous floggings of the subject, I'm sure, but I have never participated, so here's my tiny view.
I sell a few, buy a few. As a seller I went through a phase of leaving feedback for the buyers just after payment. Until this one bloke replied to my courtesy 'your item is on its way' email with 'what item?'. He had no idea what I was talking about. I had to send no less than five emails explaining about how he bid, paid and was sent the item in question. Eventually he conceeded that okay, he did buy it, and can I leave him positive feedback!! He made me laugh, but nervously. I said not till you tell me you're happy with your purchase. Eventually he emailed saying he got it can he have f/b? So I had no choice but to leave a positive. Guess what? He never returned the favour!
When you get people like that it worries you.
As a buyer I always leave feedback as soon as I am happy with the item received.
I do agree the system should be changed... and with enough pressure...

Perhaps as a solution it could be that feedback is given by both parties, but only shows after both parties have left feedback, that way neither will know what the other one left and they will hopefully be more honest in their judgements.

I too have never discussed this before, it's my first time in the ebay section.

Off topic....the cameron story is V bad. I thought when I read "grave robbers" they had taken the coffin, but it appears that wasn't what they meant. Can anyone explain why it is happening? They should put CCTV up somewhere. Unbelievable. If it were me I'd be looking for a place to be there and hide and wait with a camcorder to record who is doing it.

I started buying and selling on ebay 12 months ago and left feedback once buyers paid me but over the last few months I had loads of problems with new ebayers not leaving me feedback as I had left them some so I was improving their feedback record and they left nothing for me so now I leave feedback for buyers once they leave some for me.

I gave a buyer a negative recently for buying an item and did not bother contacting me or making payment after 2 weeks so I gave him a negative and I noticed he was buying a few things off people and not paying so when he was getting negative feedback he was just leaving negative in return and I hate idiots like this and they should be banned from ebay

Suekjw, Sorry to have appeared annoyed but I was trying to make a bit of a stand for buyers like myself who've been really pi**ed off by some sellers on ebay after they get their hands on our hard-earned money and wasn't at all suggesting that you were a crook. On the contrary I applaud everyone who gives their honest opinion on these forums. Thank you again for your replies.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

I'm going to suggest my idea to Ebay.

Seller and buyer both submit feedback in private, other party can't see it, and it doesn't get shown or counted until both parties have submitted feedback.

This would solve all the problems because you are supposed to be giving your views of the other person and this HAS NOTHING to do with what that person thinks about you.

That would mean that if some con-person set up an account, they could just not leave anyone any feedback and operate for 60 days (time allowed for leaving feedback?) without a neg showing on their account.

Good point masonic, very good point, but if people reported the seller to ebay surely they would pull the plug on him just as they do now. The only drawback I see is as you say whilst he is being reported/investigated the red marks won't show up.

Your argument would also hold if they forced sellers to f/b first, then a con man would just not f/b

I think if buyers who had been conned were to report then Ebay could act quicker on it as there would be new guidelines to the staff at ebay because they would all be aware of the problem you have mentioned.
  • As a seller when I first begun I used to leave feedback right away but now I wait until the buyer has left me it. The transaction is not complete until the buyer is happy and confirmed that they have received the goods.

The reason I changed is this, one buyer from the USA tried to con me by filing a claim to paypal saying I sold them bootlegs, I did no such thing. By this time I had already left her positive feedback so you see why sellers should wait. The transaction is not 100% complete until 45 days have passed with paypal, then they can't claw the money back!
