Who leaves feedback first?

  • No I expect confirmation from the buyer (via email) that it has been recieved, or even not received after a reasonable time, so I can resolved immediate problems, then I leave feedback. I always request confirmation via email that the item is received and confirm I will leave feedback at that point.

I never expect a buyer to leave it before I do when I'm the seller although I have noticed some do it as their way of acknowledging receipt, luckily I'm a small seller so I notice my feedback numbers changing.

I started doing this after I had one guy thresten negative feedback as he hadn't received it within 48 hours after paying late Friday afternoon as previously I always left it immediately on payment.

So what does Ebay say about the equivalent advice for sellers? You quoted what they advise buyers.....Obviously a buyer leaves feedback after recieving the item....Equally obviously a seller should give feedback after recieving payment.

What does Ebay advise the seller inregards to leaving feedback?

If there is no advice for sellers, I say there should be! so everyone knows where they stand.

The arguement some sellers make about when they recieve f/b that is when they consider the transaction to be over and thus they leave f/b too. Can equally be turned around so the buyer can think When I have recieved f/b and my item, then the transaction is over and I can leave f/b.

The whole system is a complete balls up and it needs to be programmed into the software....one way or the other.

I agree with you 100% there! I leave feedback the way I do only from experience - people are far too easy to leave negative feedback without trying to resolve the issue. I have never left or received a negative, never had the need to - I'm very lucky I suppose, I know my day must be fast approaching!

If ebay told me to leave it on payment I would - but fewer and fewer people seem to be doing that now.

As I'm sure you've looked up they tell both seller and buyer 'After you make a purchase or sale, remember to leave feedback for the eBay member you bought from or sold to. This helps everyone in the community know what it's like to deal with that member.'

As far as I'm concerned the transaction isn't over until feedback has been left by my buyer and I have done the same thing. I always offer to refund items so unsatisfaction (with the item at least) should never be an issue.

If you want to PM me your eBay ID I'll add you to my blocked bidders list so you never need worry about buying from me!

  • this subject pops up around once a month at least.

it is always good to get new points of view on a subject.

Thanks for the explanation. That would be entirely fair then. What I understood from your earlier post was that you waited for the receipt confirmation in the form of a feedback from the buyer and not an email which would be entirely unfair in my opinion. Your way should actually be an example to be followed by other eBayers.

Erm, no actually, I have 100% feedback rating and have had two buyers question my 200 plus sales - we sorted it out amongst ourselves. I started leaving it after my buyers because of what eBay themselves advise!!! I know people who have had a neg for slow delivery when they have quoted that items will be posted once payment has cleared - at 5 days after a cheque has been received, assuming you wait in for the posty and pay it in that same day!

    I'll requote it for you
Thanks for quoting the eBay advice for buyers. My advice to you was actually meant to be to eBay sellers who hold buyers to ransom and had nothing to do with lessons given to buyers who will eventually leave their feedback.
