Your statement that "It treats it's customers with the utmost arrogance being concerned only with sucking as much money out of them as possible." pretty much covers every business out there, even charities do it!
Just not to the extent that they are putting their users income at risk. The same users that pay their wages.
If you are saying you can keep selling on ebay the way they are twisting and turning, I do have one question for you. Why, if ebay wants to change to an Amazon style company, then why not just sell on Amazon, where they are better set up to protect their sellers, by making buyers sign up properly?0 -
My goods are not always new, so I can't therefore sell on Amazon and that would apply to a great number of smaller sellers. Personally I use a mixture of both Amazon and ebay for my items, although of course overall I pay more to sell on Amazon than I do on ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ebay is nothing like Amazon and as I sell predominantly wholesale lots they have no comparative option.
The main difference (apart from auctions) between Amazon and Ebay is that Ebay do not compete with their sellers!
I am quite happy selling on Ebay, anyone who isn't shouldn't bother!.0 -

They are nothing alike at the moment but ebay are fighting to catch up with Amazon.
What was it they said stop it being like a flee market and make it more like a mall, so there goes that other person, with their used goods.
But that raises another question, then, as you stand up for what ebay is doing changing what has been a winning format for most, as buyers have the one stop shop.
You allready say that your sales could not hold up without the others around you by standing by ebay or you would have your own site rather than paying ebay so much, I pay less in adsense than I did to ebay. So when ebay chase off the rest of those sellers that are bringing buyers to you, as you bring buyers to them, then you really think the buyers will stick around just to buy what ebay see as none garage sale stock?0 -

Think you may have mixed me up with someone else, you won't find a quote by me anything like you have written in that first sentence above. I already have my own website, so don't understand you there.
I sold before Ebay, I'm sure I could sell all my goods without Ebay. At the moment Ebay works very well for my business, when/if it stops doing so I'll move on..0 -
(Ebay is nothing like Amazon and as I sell predominantly wholesale lots they have no comparative option.) was from you was it not.
And we are in agreement with your second point, as you have your own website so are not going to be left holding the stock like a lot of people will find themselves if they end up on that list of "we no longer want your trade" ebay are building.
But a lot off people do not have that option and a lot of the sellers will find their goods do not transfer that easy to a website. And as you have your own website you know the time it took you to set it up and get it making money.
All most involved in the boycott are trying to do is give people the same options we have, as it is not really about ebay any longer, and is more to do with those people that use or used it and how they can survive the changes to come. Those changes that ebay want us to ignore, as if we all moved at once then ebay would have to explain that to shareholders.0 -

I don't know how the quote of mine leads you to quote me as saying that my sales could not hold up, it doesn't make sense.
I also don't understand why other sellers don't have an option of selling elsewhere, of course they do, there is no area or product on Ebay that cannot be sold via any other outlet on or offline. Apart from private sales, classified ads, etc, there are hundreds of auction houses across the country all of whom charge more than Ebay and have less customers (admittedly the service offered differs in that they handle the goods for sale), they nearly all charge buyers and sellers and offer no protection..0 -
Regulars on here will know that I have tried other sites and other non online ways of making sales, but keep returning to ebay as the only place where I can regularly sell my items at a price that I need to make a profit. I have in the past experimented with my own website and added my web address to all my thanks you notes and invoices for ebay customers, with no takers. Even now my thank you note and despatch note to ebay customers includes my book store on Amazon, but I can't say I noticed any increase in sales when I started doing that.
I've also tried ebid and Tazbar with no success whatsoever. I am also a regular at a 'real' auction but use it mainly for buying as with selling premium and VAT and all auction costs there is no way I could turn a profit there.
I still do not consider that ebay have a monopoly, nor do I blame them for me not being able to sell elsewhere, it is my choice an dmy choice alone to continue to use them. For my goods ebay is still the easiest place to sell so it would not be in my interest to boycott them as I would then have no real outlet for th emajority of my goods. I discount Amazon from this particular discussion as I only use Amazon for books and not my other lines.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. That is the point of the boycott, as you are learning it takes a lot of work time and money to push your own site. And a lot of people think they will worry about that when it happens. But what would that cost you in not just lost earnings for the time period but also for any storage you have to pay for, or even for some the loss of a supply chain, as we have quickly found with ebay that to say no to a supplier even once can have you loosing that supplier to someone that is happy and willing to jump in your place. I have just got back a supplier for that very reason, as the person that was offering him more money has just been kicked from ebay, they will probably get back on ebay in a week or two but he does not need the messing around
I hope you courage pays off and people are wrong, but only time will tell.0 -
I think personal websites tend to work better if you sell a certain range of goods, whereas I sell all sorts of things. By that I mean if you for instance sell photographic gizmos then your buyers on ebay will probably be interested in photographic items and may well visit your website for more gadgets. I sell a few lines of stock, when the market collapses with that, I move on, so my goods are never the same from one quarter to the next. Therfore someone buying a widget A from me this month isn't going to bookmark my site if I then go on to selling lace negligees the next (I don't sell them really BTW
).
I need a huge exposure to turn over my stock and don't carry any lines that i can't sell, so I have very few wasted fees really on ebay. Interestingly even offering my 'stock best sellers' on other auction sites at less than the price I sell them for regularly on ebay resulted in no sales.
I have considerably reduced my stock on ebay though as I was struggling to get new lines of stock that were not already swamping ebay. Instead I have found a new venture, not online (yay I get to see real people!!) as a way to keep busy.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
