Supermarket coupon policy

flowergirl - people are suspicious thinking you have done more than you say. why not write out in detail what you bought and what coupon you used what the bill came to what was deducted if you were quizzed about anything else eg shoplifting. i asked you to scan - you didnt - i asked you to type the alleged offence - you didnt with detail. attention to detail is wholly lacking here hence why many are suspicious. i just read your posts with a healthy pinch of salt because you are fairly vague..0

I am The Dude.
R&R veteran and generally ok guy
I've said earlier in this thread that the OP (who wants to remain anonymous in MSE terms) and I have commuincated off-line.
I'm as satisified as I can be that the OP has a genuine issue - even though I agree the circumstances are bizarre.
If you ask anyone who knows me from MSE and the R&R days they can vouch for my honesty (anyone there guys)
Trust me - the OP is genuine.
But I understand your concerns - I too had serious doubts when I first read this thread.

On a more serious note I am going shopping to Sainsburys on Sunday and I have a collection of coupons that I do not want to buy. Can I use them without buying the product based on their coupon policy. Trouble is do not know their official policy?0

Let's go through her story
Which is complete rubbish here (as i posted on PTS) is a link as to what happen's when detained in a supermarket for any crime (police are only ever called in if the store manager decides to prosecute after a person has been interviewed by the security manager and store manager). compare what happend to her to what happen's to the woman in the link.
All link's provided by my Brother in Law who is a police officer.

If you were arrested on SATURDAY the 26 of april as your post was on the 30 of april you said you phoned the police station and was going to speak to the officer that night it was the 5th of may IF YOU WERE ISSUED a STREET BAIL NOTICE you Would HAVE been TOLD to REPORT TO THE POLICE STATION WITHIN 7 DAYS as instructed in part C.1 .. 7 DAY'S would have been by the 3 OF MAY yet you still have not been told to attend the police station.
Your solicitor and their secutary must be the worst in the world, they said you should have been offered free legal help! why ? you have not been arrested and charged with a crime only after being arrested and CHARGED are you entitled to free legal service's
you said if i delete my private details from the notice of STREET BAIL you were given there would be nothing left well here is a copy for everyone one to read, we would see you were not telling the truth as there would be load's of information remaining.

Itime
. . .
I think that IF this is true then it should really be hitting the daily papers, and be accompanied by police and sainsburys statements. Mind you, I wonder how all those "We accept Asda/Tesco/sainsbury etc" banner adverts stand if they are now classing this as crime? Perhaps aiding and abetting?
Those "banner adverts" are not the same thing at all. For example, if Asda accept a Tesco money off coupon, Asda does not submit the coupon to Tesco to claim the money. Asda simply gives the same discount as was being offered by Tesco but gets the custom and Tesco lose out by not selling something to the customer.
If Asda accepts a XYZ product coupon, they are going to submit the coupon to the manufacturer/manufacturer's agent and reclaim the money and not lose anything which they would if they gave the discount themselves without claiming it from the manufacturer.0 -

3. The constable can require the arrested person to attend a police station at a specified later date. Alternatively, the constable can inform the person that he or she will receive a notice within seven days informing them of a specified date to attend the police station. No other conditions can be imposed.
Maybe you should read the above and get your facts right, AKANE. I have just copied and pasted the above from the street bail notice.0 -
flowerclipper wrote: »I have been looking up the street bail procedure and within seven days you should be given a date to attend the station. They gave me a date immediately and I will be going to the station in a couple of weeks unless I hear otherwise. I think this is to give the supermarket time to find evidence against me. Does anyone know where the coupons go when you hand them in. Are they linked to each till?
When I used to work in a store, the till would be balanced at the end of the week, or periodically sooner and all cash, coupons, cheques etc., counted to make sure it matched the till reading. Then coupons would be amalgamated at the end of the week and sent off to our head office who dealt with them all in bulk.
Some stores have a policy of the SA writing the till number on the coupon, but I've not seen that done in Tesco or Sainsbury's, so chances are it wouldn't be linked back to a particular till as they all go in one pot for despatch.
Not sure if that helps or not.
Take heart, flowerclipper, I do think the majority of people on here now do actually believe you and are supporting you, even if they were sceptical at first, as I was.
I think Duder's support is also valuable and yes, I was around in the glory days of R&R, Duder, and if anything was on slightly dodgy ground then that was surely it, rather than a few coupons! People were getting free playstations and all sorts out of Tesco at the time and yes, ok I had a fair few freebies myself, but nothing on that scale!
Can I just wish you all the very best with this and I feel sure it won't actually come to a charge being brought against you. My OH, who is a policeman, also doesn't think it will come to anything, if that's any comfort.
All the best and keep us posted and try and ignore anyone slagging you off. I'd just ask them to bear in mind the forum etiquette and if they don't support you then they don't have to continue reading this thread, they can go elsewhere!
Good luck!0 -
I was quick to judge based on the early facts, the story still sounds so bizarre but having known The Dude since R&R, If he is happy with the validity of the case then im happy to go with it.
Will watch this space for any developments0
