Anyway dont want to intervene but best of luck should you end up going further with this case.
Thank you very much. Have just phoned police station to talk to arresting officer. Will be able to speak to him tonight. Had a long chat with the lady on the switchboard. She says she just puts down a pile in Tesco and they take what they can and give back what they can't. That's all I have ever done. Never forced anybody to take them. Off now for advice.0 -

I'm confused... I thought this happened in Sainsbury. What do you mean puts down a pile in Tesco?“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

Yes, I used them in Sainsburys but the lady on police switchboard does the same in Tesco. Have just been to CAB and the chap said that he just gives a pile to the cashier and they go through them and then give the ones they can't take back to him. He thought it was bizarre - because it could easily happen to him. Will be able to speak to solicitor tomorrow. Have posted address for article below. Do not know if I have done it properly.

I think that it's Sainsbury that should be in trouble. Normally on the retailer bit of the coupon it says, that accepting a coupon for a product not bought constitutes fraud. On the customer side it simply says it may cause embarrassment&delay at the checkout.0

when i printed out couponet coupon it does say easch coupon is unique and personalised, void if photocopied, altered, reproduced, auctioned, sold, traded, transferred or assigned.any such misuse constitutes fraud and is a prosecutable offence. dont see how handing in for shopping is doing any of above, selling on e bay well that is wrongI like doing it daily :A0

Sorry, I don't wish to sound like I'm slating you, but I'm just incredulous about the police procedures you've described. I'm not prepared to believe that the police carried out a formal interview while you were under arrest, and then bailed you, from within a supermarket. Sorry, but that just doesn't happen.
Are you sure you were actually arrested and bailed, and that you haven't misunderstood what was said to you?0 -
Not slating you OP - just asking for some context.
It does seem rather bizarre although your recent posts do seem to add some credibility - but does seem bizarre.
A while back I did some shopping in Asda with non-Asda coupons.
I got rumbled and this manager went ape - he must have had a bad day I guess - even the SA was embarrased and hid - anyway I ended up with him and 2 other suits around me.
I just offered and subsequently paid the coupon balance in cash but the manager was muttering to his colleagues "fraud....fed up with this....Police" - I couldn't really pick up the whole conversation.
He seemed to miss the bit when I told the CS staff that I would pay the balance and when they started to process the payment he was not initially aware - by the time he caught up he was even more miffed - I genuinely think he wanted to call the Cops.
But he had to leave it at "Your not welcome here" as I left the store.
If your story is genuine perhaps the store was being hit heavy for coupons and the eye in the sky was looking for any coupon abuse and you were the unlucky next Dude to come along?
I don't know.
BTW I do know that the Police have various 'measurables' relating to convictions and the like - fraud is not measured - by and large the Police are reluctant to commit resources to low-level fraud as they can't add these to their performance stats.

Thank you Duder and Taxiphil. Have just spoken to a lady at the solicitors and will be talking to the solicitor this afternoon. She said that I should have been offered legal help. She also couldn't believe this all happened in the supermarket even though it was in a back room not on the shop floor! She uses coupons and knows of this site. Everyone I have had to talk to about this cannot believe it so I can understand how you didn't either.0

Do us a favour as most dont believe you. simply scan the document the police gave you. you can edit out your personal details. most people would then believe you and try to help with legal advice which you would want if this is genuine..0
