Supermarket coupon policy

Like many, I thought flowerclipper's story was a load of sloblock, but the Dude has a damn good reputation on here.
Flowerclipper - what was the value of the coupon? You're not gonna go to prison for a 20p off Tetley's misredemption.
The prisons are fit to bursting and they're letting druggies, career criminals and violent thugs back onto the streets because of the overcrowding.
If this case ever landed in any court, it would surely be cast out by the judge and condemned as a massive waste of police and CPS time and money. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thank you so much, Josie and 'The Lurch'. Will let you know when I know something.0

i used 4 DM book tokens today - handcuffs please
I'm not taking the pee at all btw, I hope it does get sorted and you keep up the posting, how much was your coupon(s) worth?
I use a hell of a lot of coupons, i buy some of ebay, just little 20 - 50p ones how would i know if they were fakes? tetley, lurpak etc Answer= i wouldn't unless it was pointed out to me.
I also agree that for the sake of one coupon surley instead of wasting all the time and money they could just ask you to pay the amount/value of the coupon back, but then i guess sainsburys may well have sent the coupon in for redemption therefore gaining an extra 2p on topcoupon over here, coupon over there, every crack filled with coupons even down there(meaning under the buggy lol):D0 -

My OH went to Sainsbury's yesterday and he said that there were coupons in every trolley and checkout - 50p off Fosters - all over the car pack too!0 -
they will have to have a whole lot of evidence to blame a whole years worth of mis redeemed coupons on you!.
If it does go any futher then I would do a formal request for all the info they have on you, if indeed its anything. They have to by law supply it, think it costs £10 but cant remember what its actually called (someone on here will remind me)
This will prove if they have been making a case against you or not0 -

It's nothing, really, to do with what you did on the day in question, then. Rather the history of it.
Makes it much more of a big issue, which explains the heavy-handedness of it. It doesn't explain why they broke all their procedures, but that's another question.
So, have you been involved with deception for the past year?
If not, any idea why they think you have?
Have they told you exactly what they think you have done? Or what evidence they have?
If not, any reason why you can't or won't ask them what they think you have done or what evidence they have?
If you haven't done anything wrong for the past year then it may well be a case of mistaken identity, in which case all this worry would be for nothing.0 -
If I had been involved in deception for a year, it was unwittingly. Wouldn't set out to do anything wrong on purpose - family, friends, pride, all that jazz!0
-
And so have you asked them what they think you have done?0

I can't tell you what the coupon was for or the price (not yet) but they are accusing me of deception for the past year. I think they haven't been able to redeem this particular coupon (not a fake) and have had others and are blaming the whole lot on me.

Just read through the thread from start to finish and whilst I was skeptical about it all I then started to believe it... all until the line highlighted in bold.
If you had been arrested and involved in something like that when you had supposedly done nothing wrong then surely you would not continue to shop there??? If a supermarket did something like that to me then I would never step foot in there again ever! I would also contact the press and go down that route!!!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
'Same sort of coupons used for a year' - I would guess at Daily Mail Book tokens or batches of Supermarket-magazine coupons (from Sainsburys or other stores)? None of which can they redeem, hence the problem.
Flowerclipper I do believe you and feel for you, let us know how you get on.
What are some managers like?If the problem has been going on for over a year, why didn't the stupid Manager just photocopy the offending coupon after the first few weeks and tell staff in a team meeting not to accept it, with a reminder to cashiers that you have to buy the product to use a coupon in Sainsburys? He could then get the Till Manager to issue a reminder every so often and include it in new staff training, maybe put a copy of the offending coupon(s) at each till if his cashiers are a bit dopey!
And to others, AFAIK Sainsburys do NOT put out banners saying they will accept other stores coupons (the other stores do though). And Sainsburys do NOT allow you to use even one coupon unless you buy the product (sadly their tills - and some cashiers - don't know that).
Simple adage, in future, shop where they do accept coupons!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
