This thread has moved so fast I just cant keep up. Havent been on line for nearly a week so that doesnt help. I have managed to stay away from big shopping, and have just bought a few things here and there in the co-op/ on my way home from work. But over the last week I have bought mostly reduced goods. I have spent around £18.00 (not sure on exact pennies at the moment, but I will amend later.) so I have altered my signature accordingly. I still have to go till the end of the month, as pay day isnt until Friday. So I will update still as I go along. But I am really pleased that I have managed to stay away from a Mr T delivery, and the kids are using their own money for the things they want if they really must have them. i.e. crisps and sugary drinks etc. Looks like I will be well within my target. Yipee...Its all starting to come together. ( I hope I havent lost the luck by saying that.). Home made bread is going down well, but they always leave a large end, and it dries out, so tomorrow I hope to make a bread and butter pudding...
Bread Pudding is pretty good too, mmmm my nanna used to make it all the time, mines never as good as hers :A .
225g (8oz) Stale Bread
110g (4oz) Currants, Raisins or Sultanas
50g (2oz) Brown Sugar
50g (2oz) Butter
½ tsp Mixed Spice
1 Egg
Milk Pre-heat oven to 170°C: 325°F: Gas 3
Break bread into small pieces; soak in cold water at least 1 hour
Strain and squeeze out as dry as possible.
Place into a basin and mash with a fork.
Add the dried fruit, sugar, mixed peel and mixed spice, mixing well.
Add the egg and enough milk to enable the mixture to drop easily from a spoon.
Place into a greased baking tin.
Bake for about an hour or until slightly firm to the touch.
When done turn out on to a hot dish.
Turn out dredge with sugar and serve hot with custard, or allow to cool.
we all like it cold

Mumzy - WHSmith do sell cash boxes (search their site for cash box & you should find 3) - but I don't think they have more than 1 hole (if any) in the top. You could try somewhere like Staples - I know they sell them , but not sure how many holes they have. Search (petty) cash tin/ cash box should (hopefully!) get you somewhere. And ebay, too, of course!

That's exactly how I make it, almost to the minuteIt does make it taste so much nicer.

**Didn't let it prove long enough just 2 hours in warm place.
**Checked if it was in date ---shock horror it was BB April 2003.
So hopefully the next one will be better after those 2 mistakes.
The kids will eat the loaf and like it and better luck next time.:rotfl:
Am now on this forum at least 2 times daily and it's a lifesaver- thanks.

How long does fresh yeast last for?
I normally buy dry yeast and write the date that I open it on the packet so that I know to use it within the 3 months.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

My DS is 20 months old and I'm really struggling to look after him all day by myself as he is so active and all I can do is sit with him. He goes to nursery two days a week as thats all we can afford on OH's (good) wages. I spend 3 days looking after DS and have to spend the rest of the week in bed recoveringMe and 'OH' aren't even a couple any more but I'm stuck living with him until I get a diagnosis because I can't claim Incapacity Benefit or anything else until I've got it in writing that I'm actually ill. I am so
Hi Nikki
I'm sorry you're having a bad time. Is it worthwhile making an appointment to see the CAB to see if they can help you out?

May has been a nightmare for me as I have had so little time. Managed to keep on budget (just) but really struggling to keep up with the thread, and I feel that reading it regularly helps with motivation. Haven't done as much home baking/cooking as previous months, and I'm sure we have been helped by the fact that we have been away a couple of times this month, although we do have food left. Hoping for a better month in June. Will post final total in a day or 2. Well done everyone:o0
