the casserole recipie sounds lovely i think i ll try that tomorrow but could i be a pest and ask for the sausage casserole recipie as well please (told you i was new at this )
Not a pest at all! Here you go! Remember that you do not have to go by the recipe exactly-just use up all of the stuff you want to which you think will be suitable. Ive done mine both in slowcooker and on stove. I soak the soupmix overnight. The pearl barley swells a lot so dont worry about the casserole looking thin to start with. If you make dumplings this also thickens it up. I always cook the sausage first to remove he excess fat-especially if using some chicken stock as this has fat in it anyway.
Handfull of soupmix(half a teacup)
handfull of pearl barley
2 largish onions
some dried garlic or fresh(up to you)
two stock cubes-any type
approx 3/4 pint of chicken stock(from the last carcass)(I froze the stock)
If the stock was cooked down a lot you way want to add less stock and more water.
2 tins plum tomatoes or passata
some mixed herbs-oregano or basil or all of them
half a teaspoon of chilli if liked
8 sausages or more if you like(I cooked them first to get the excess fat off)-we hate fatty meals
a few new potatoes washed and sliced
a few carrots
a tin of baked beans also went in the last one!
This, when cooked up was enough for eight meals. We ate 4 servings and froze the rest for another day. didnt realise it would make so much!
guessing at approx £2.40 so 30p per serving!!!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -

Please can I have the recipe for the risotto ???
This is something I have been dying to try out

Hey folks
:T to all doing well and :grouphug: to those that are struggling.
I've not posted in ages - I've been catching up with the posts everyday - but with recovering from op - trying to work my full-time hours last week (didn't quite make it!) and pottering in the garden when it wasn't raining I've not had time to post!
I've been a good girl :A and fingers crossed I'll make it this month! The next few days is use up what's lurking in the fridge as I'm away the weekend (in a village hall for 2 nights with 18 brownies - any volunteers) I will get my supermarket fix this week as I'm going shopping with the cook Thursday night to get the provisions
Had my car serviced Wed  , I've found my arm and leg and next month will be a bit tight - but as I have enough in my freezer for June(and have done for most of May  ) I should just need fruit and veg (although I can't resist a good whoopsie!)
I've loads of tomato plants and peppers in my little mini greenhouse, also loads of squash plants, my lettuce leaves are peeking through - so hopefully I can start eating out of the garden soon!
Anyway - better go and get myself sorted for tomorrow and maybe organise the ironing pile (urgent and downwards!) I can't remember who has it in their signature but it says something along the lines of 'ironing is my favourite hobby - only second to banging my head against the wall' I agree totally, good job it's just me 'cos if I had a family they'd learn to iron at a young age!0 -
well had a good cooking and collecting day today, got some baby pepper plants from a freecycler, and i made some lovely lentil and carrot soup using my hm chook stock(for work lunches), and froze the excess stock for next roast dinner to use for gravy.
oh and did make fruity hobnobs too.
