MrsM, we call it pay as you starve, as the amount you get now compared to when it was free is at least half
:rotfl: thats what hubby calls it... its crazy.. hubby always said that as a single man.. he could get paid on monday and if he spent it all by tuesday it didn't matter as he had his accomodation and all his meal for the rest of the month -those days are long gone..
The Core meals that hubby has seen are tiddly -how do they expect the lads to do a decent full days work
I know its not the armies job to babysit the lads but we knew some lads back in the UK who lived on the cheap supernoodles and a bottle of cheap vitamins all month and very little else
Anyway i now have the gammon cooling, a cake is in the oven -fingers crossed as its and adaptation of one of here/concoctioni have had my juice... did peach, apple, pear n kiwi mmmm so now im off out to set some more seeds
have a great one everyone :T-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Hello folks
I'm new to this thread, is there an "Aldi" thread? if not I'll post here.
I'm starting to do home cooking after living on ready meals, I found some recipes which I'd like to create, however because I shop regularly at Morrisons, I'm wondering if I can obtain the following ingredients cheaper from Aldi.
Although I've never shopped in Aldi, there is one located next door to my local Morrisons, which I can pop into.
Here's the list
paprika
cumin seeds
Fry light
chilli powder
chickpeas
ground coriander
turmeric
garam masala
Marmite
Self raising flour/ wholemeal
Caster sugar
Baking powder
dried oregano
dried basil
Canderel
dried mixed herbs
Large Tin Chopped Tomatoes
chopped tomatoes
garden peas
kidney beans
mango chutney
honey
Veg Stock cubes
Any advice please, and I'm sorry for the long post
I went to Aldi last week the first time in ages and I admit that I was generally a bit disappointed with the prices. We don't have a Morrison's so can't do that comparison.
Perhaps it is because I have been looking for bargains in the other supermarkets recently. The only things I bought from your list were kidney beans for 17p, Fry light for one pound, and SRF for 43p (but this was only 1kg, not 1.5 that I used to buy).
We buy some cook in sauces there at 59p each to keep in for emergency quick meals, I never make my own Sweet and sour, and DD likes this one (but doesn't know where it comes from.)
As already posted you won't get the variety of herbs and spices, so if you are prepared to go to both, (and be good) then it could be worth it for you.
I recently found an ethnic shop that I get all my herbs and spices from, very cheap, in plastic bags not fancy jars, and quantities from a couple of grams to kilos! Worth trying to find one if you need to get so many to get started, although I have always kept the fancy jars fron the branded ones I have bought over the years so had something to put them in.0 -
Morning all,
Thundered here last night, so the air is feeling clear and fresh!
I went to Aldi the other day and only spent 89p came out feeling disappointed. couldn't find Vanilla essence, (still need to get it, will try mt T later, on another trip to collect from freecycle) In general it didn't look any cheaper than Lidl, (they didn't have that much baking stuff either ) Which i'd just been in. and it didn't have the range.

I have just lost my long post twice!! Not sure what happened there. So now in a nutshell I wanted to share a website that I enjoy, it is American and there is a small 'faith' message however it is well worth dipping in and having a look. There is a recipe section and a homemaking ideas underpinned with a thrifty, no waste, moneysaving tone. https://www.hillybillyhousewife.comBoots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000

Also for herbs and spices - you haven't said your location - but for example in Brixton in South London there is a health food shop where you buy all of them in bulk (and I do mean all of them, they have a huge selection including some organic and then others I've never heard of before! also some dried herbs for teas like loose peppermint - again much much cheaper than buying tea bags). I now use the supermarket jars to keep my herbs in, but when I can go along to Brixton Wholefoods and get refills. For example two small jars' worth of oregano cost 20 p.
Don't know whether there are other shops that do herbs and spices in bulk like this, but posting this info in case it's helpful.

Morning everyone :hello:
It's taken me days to catch up and can't remember who needed hugs or congrats so please feel free to share these - lol
:T :T :T :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :dance::dance::dance:
Well been a pretty good week over all. After my colossal spends in Asda last weekend I have managed to buy very little this week. It's mainly been bread for kids and milk. My DD (16) must think I keep a cow somewhere as she is going through the stuff like it's on tap
As I'm trying to lose weight as well I haven't done a lot of baking or desserts, but really missing something sweet. Last night kids were with their Dad so had house to myself. Found myself standing with fridge door open on several occasions - don't even remember walking thereFinally deceided to make a fridge cake with the chocolate sat in there and then took all bar a small piece to my sisters. That way I satisfied my baking urge and sweet tooth in one go, took away the temptation to pig on dark choc and my little sis loves me!!:rotfl:
Off for a trawl around garden centres soon. MrsMc's apotment has got me thinking I should make use of the huge space I've got and not moan about cutting the grass all the time. If I stuck veg in I wouldn't have grass to cut :j :j :j :j A win/win situation - less work + more scrummy salad for summer = BIG money saving :money:
Have a lovely sunny Sunday    :xmastree:Merry Christmas0 -
