BBC - Jeremy Leaf, North London Estate Agent, assesses the effects of the credit crunch on video
Jeremy Leaf has not closed yet but...
More lettings and fewer sales.
Key difference = mortgage finance has dried up
SPEED of the decline very noticeable.
It's worth listening for the bit where he starts spotting the "green shoots". They can't help themselves, can they?

All I see is a huge ancient overgrown forest full of tall trees, poor soil, dead wood littering the surface, and a fire raging in the distance.
The forest needs to burn down so as to feed the soil with new nutrients, so the green shoots can quickly take hold for a new generation to take over. The fire blowing in all directions and is going to engulf the entire forest.0 -
Local branch of Reed Rains has closed & is now up for sale."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -

My first post around here
Northampton:
https://www.horts.co.uk this lot had a few offices - has gone down to two and all the agents are now self employed!
http://www.theagents.co.uk/ only using internet now, closed their shop.
https://www.oriordanbond.co.uk these have closed at least three offices(the ones i drive past occasionally) and are deniying there is a problem.
There are also at least two mortgage advisors closed around too.0 -

Lots of local ones closing.
Most interested that the 2 local EA's in our (small) village (really would barely merit one) - both awful people to deal with, have ceased advertising at all in the local paper.
Assume times are hard.
Shan't weep if both go bust - both classic examples of lousy, unprofessional EA's when the market was strong; I'd certainly be happy to deal with pleasant, professional EA's from further away who treated buyers as well as sellers with respect.0 -

The Halifax has said it is to close 53 of its estate agency branches in a move that will lead to the loss of 100 jobs.
The firm said the closures followed the "significant decline" in the number of house sales over the past year.
