Phew! I've had a lucky escape...I was oblivious to all this hassle. We applied online (existing Barclays customers) in March and it all came thru within a week. Went to the local branch in April to bung away this years allowance...no probs.
For once, I must have beaten the rush :D

Hope you all get sorted soon! :D

Out of interest - how did you go about paying in this years allowance in branch?

I'm really pleased for you that your all sorted!

    This gets even worse!!

Like many, I have waited 7 weeks or more and even though I have a complaint in I thought I'd ring them up to see what is going on. So after being on hold a while this morning, the bod took my details for security and put me on hold again.

He came back saying he had "found" mine and my wife's applications and would put me on hold to "do some more checks."

He came back and said he would be setting straight off to the "Correspondence" department and we would get all our details in about 3 working days.

If this is true, and I was that stunned I couldn't get my head round it, then it may be worthwhile folks phoning up and seeing if their applications can be found in this mysterious black hole.

He also said twice that the interest would be fully backdated but I'm ready for that battle anyhow!

Just had a phone call from someone claiming to be Barclays Bank wanting me to give them personal details regarding my application!

After confirming my DOB and Post Code I refused to give out any other details unless they could prove to me they were Barclays Bank! They refused.

I was told that my application had missing or incorrect details, funny because all the details I gave them were correct and I confirmed this at the Branch. They are now going to post me the forms and have told me it could take upto 6 weeks from when they receive them!!!

An absolute disgrace! I will be making my second complaint right now!

There are a lot of people reporting very bad experiences of Barclays on this thread, but I've just checked my online banking and found that my Tax Haven ISA has been opened and the opening deposit has been transfered from my current account. I applied for the ISA account online at 9.30 this morning.

Has anyone had their interest backdated to cover the delay? There was some talk of interest being calculated from 14 days after application, which in my case was the 21st of April.

My cheque finally hit the ISA around 5wks after this date. I estimate that based on my full £3600 I'm owed around £22.
The branch staff who appear to know very little about the bank's stance on this asked me to call back in a few days to see if anything has been added but I'd be staggered if it has.

Yes. OH and I have each received a cheque for £20 today.

This has been done through the Financial Adviser at the branch who opened our accounts. He was the one who told us that interest would be paid from the day after we applied. Upon hearing about Barclays only paying interest from the 15th day OH telephoned him and he said he and his colleague misinterpreted the information and thereby misinformed us about interest being paid from the start. He agreed to backdate the interest and although we have had to chase it by making a few phone calls it eventually arrived today - from the branch not the ISA centre (who we have not had any dealings with). There was no suggestion it was added to our accounts (we opened them with the full £3,600 each), he just said he would send us each a cheque.
  • I applied online for a 2008/09 Tax haven ISA ON 5th April.
On 1st May the £3600 was debited from my account yet a week later there was still no sign of it showing on my online banking summary.
I phone up to enquire why, and a complaint was logged 7th May.
On 24th May the ISA was still not open so i phoned the savings number to complain again. After being kept on hold for 15 minutes i was told there had been an error and my money had been used to open someone else's ISA !!!
A complaint was logged and i was told it would be open the next working day.
The ISA is still not open and i have now recieved a further letter updating the situation on my 1st complaint to say they now hope to resolve it by 2nd July !!
BARCLAYS ARE A TOTAL DISGRACE . SHOCKING IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT !!!

I've received by Barclays Tax Haven Isa statement and it says interest rate is 5.08 % (with 1% bonus). Has this ISA dropped to 6.08 now then?

    It's 6.08% gross, 6.25% AER, including the 1% bonus.
  • I applied on 2 April for 2007/8 tax year and heard nothing from them at all. I am now in dispute with them as to what has happened with my investment. My advice is don't bother.

I agree with Triathletes comments about Barclays as they have not only not opened my account through the post but cashed my cheque for £3000 and have not yet returned my money. I have heard nothing from them and when I ring I am told it is being dealt with urgently but each subsequent call I am told nothing has been done. What can I do as my money has been taken from me and the Ombudsman informs me the earliest they can be involved is 22 July? How is a bank allowed to operate is this way?

    ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING LEVEL OF SERVICE!
