in this case it is impossible to dispute that it was wrong, otherwise i would have had one too.
All websites need something like this on their terms and conditions.
Terms and conditions do not over rule your statutory rights, they can say that in their T&C's but if the TV was priced incorrectly but still reasonably priced to the consumer, the T&C's would not protect Argos.
I have seen this particular TV Bush 28" widescreen crt In Somerfield for 129.99 They sold fast though.0 -

No absolutely not, having said that the legislation does provide for errors and this would clearly fall within the guidelines. Had the tv been for sale at say £99 it may have been difficult for them to wriggle out but certainly no lower than that in my opinion. The argos deal is a dead dog nobody would be able to support a claim on the basis that the genuinely believed this price to be an "offer" price so any claim would likely fold before entering court, in the unlikely event that a claim did go to court the claim would almost certainly be regarded as malicious and costs awarded against the complainant and at the same time set a very unfavourable precedent for the consumer!Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Sooler wrote:or, if it's not already been suggested, how about those who put in an order, or multiple orders, for a 49p telly chuck their 49p into a kitty and donate TV's with the money raised.
Wouldn't bother me Sooler. I'd feel like I was giving something back. And I didn't even order one.
Shame Argos don't feel the same.0 -
I wonder how many of the people laying into Argos attempted to buy two TV's with the intention of donating one to a Childrens Ward? I just think that the argument cuts both ways.......
(By the way that is not aimed at the Martin or MSE.com as I acknowledge the sites charitable donations)0 -
This is just a daft post.
Why should Argos do this ?
It was a mistake and the people who applied knew it was a mistake. It was worth a try to apply for a 49p TV but don't whinge when you don't get it....and don't blame Argos for peoples greed.
I'm astonished...this site is normally so sensible.0 -
Attempt to claim against Argos here, ... as pointed out in another forum, by filling in the required form they are collecting email addresses themselves!

"Claims Against Argos"
"We are investigating a group claim against Argos for those people who have attempted to purchase a TV, or other item, from their website only for Argos to claim an error in pricing."
...
"e) Whether the circumstances are such that the gathering by Argos through this event of reportedly over 10,000 live email addresses of people who buy on the internet (itself a valuable benefit for Argos) breaches privacy laws, and, further, in such a way as to trigger a right to compensation under European regulations."
"Initially we would like information from those who attempted to make such a purchase. If you are interested, then please complete the Form below."0 -
Why does it not surprise me that some two-bit ambulance chaser would try to get in on the act ... this is the UK legal system at its WORST. And those that go for it obviously have very quesitonable moral values.
