I notice you have AA as well but have no other car expenses eg petrol/mot/insurance/maintenance etc. Is this right?

All my other van expenses are put through the business, I should be able to include breakdown once exOH's car is off, I've found out today I can get a good deal from AA through the local business chamber.

Yes, I mean council tax, its over 10 months and includes single person discount, council said I could only pay over 10 months. Why can you push for 12?

Check your car insurance as quite alot of them these days include breakdown cover in the policy - might be worth a look!

Definitely try and get a lodger :) So long as the house is clean and the dogs a friendly I don't see it should be a problem :) Back when I had no pets I would certainly have considered lodging in a home with pets! Especially if you think your dogs might get on with another dog if small/medium sized so the lodger could bring theirs too? You'd have people queuing at the front door!
Check the pet insurance prices and then see if you can get cashback through quidco - you'd be amazed how much you can get back. When you renew insurances always check fi you get any cashback on there!
With the old horse then how old are we talking? I think if it's a very elderly horse then you might be right in cancelling the insurance. So long as you have checked if the current policy covers things particularly like putting down and disposing of the horse (sorry to sound harsh) maybe check with your friends who are vets? If you're talking max a few hundred then I'd think about cancelling or same if the policy doesn't cover this. I don't think you're being harsh, there is a point in time where you know that if things happen it's no longer in the animals interest to keep it alive as it won't have a quality of life or the sheer stress of any treatment however minor would just be too stressful. Only you can decide this though.

ebaying... so long as you have not bought stuff to sell then you don't have t declare this, however if you have anything you have bought to make a profit make sure you declare it and pay whatever tax you need to. Why not join one of the 50,000 ebay challenges that are going on here at the moment? :) it's great for motivation!

Best of luck and chin up.

Are you really in a position to say - this has to stay, that has to stay? If you took out a 125% mortgage, you are now in a position when you need to accept that you have X amount of money and X in outgoings, horses are a 'dear do' and even if you get free housing for them the rest of their keep, including health, is expensive. Maybe one horse would be enough?

It sounds as though you are clinging onto a lifestyle you cannot afford.

Afternoon! Welcome to the boards! As you can see you will always get lots, & sometimes differing advice so you need to just sort whats what! I can see both sides of the animal debate as I have 3 cats who I could no longer think of getting rid of than I could if I had children! Having said that I did cancel my pet insurance last year and one cat (now not with us) was ill soon after & it was awful & I'll never not have pet insurance again but also now acknowledge that my need for numerous pets stemmed from the same emotional needs as my excessive shopping and wont have loads again but neither would I have none, no matter what people on here may say!
As others have suggested its worth thinking about a lodger and some would like living with animals without having the responsiblity - others wouldnt but this is about finding a solution for you! Would OH be liable for part of the loan until they are paid off - ie are they joint? You take a huge risk with his name being on the mort as hes then liable for half the profit. My x-oh did this but then relied heavily on me being honest when he sold which I was (but it was ever so tempting to not be!!) but it leaves you vulnerable...The other thing is being realistic is your business ging to make you enough to cover everything? If there is ? over this then I would consider selling, esp if there is no way of getting a lodger. You can ask if they will do CT over 12m - I just changed mine over without any probs & it makes it much easier to budget...Also would ? whether your food clothing budget is realistic? Its hard but better to be honest with yourself at this stage & get a realistic plan for the road ahead...I know its really hard as s many changes for you that you need to not rush into any drastic decisions that you'll later regret. I walked away with nothing but in hindsight was so pleased that did as it meant a fresh start for me....Hang in there!

You are paying £557 on the mortgage - how does this compare to the rent you would have to pay if you moved out? Or could you move back in with your parents? There doesn't seem to be much point in moving unless you could rent significantly cheaper than you are paying now.

On top of the mortgage you've got about £400 per month going out in loan repayments. Are both of these debts yours, or are they joint?

Its hardly a great lifestyle, getting up at 5am every morning just to turn the horses out and muck out before work, with working the hours I work at the minute I hardly ever ride. I rarely go out, rarely, if ever, shop for clothes, shoes, handbags, etc like most women, I rely on birthdays and Christmas for essentials, then I've just got in from tucking my horses in bed and walking the dogs.

Its also my exercise and a way to relax, much cheaper than a gym!

Rent would be a similar amount. Moving back with parents is possible but I would like it to be a last resort.

Both loans are mine, one finishes in January the other I've still got to check.
