I have some plum and apple crumble in my fridge waiting for me to get home from work! I just peeled and chopped the apples and then stoned the plums and quartered them and then put the crumble mix on top. I don't bother with sugar as was using dessert apples and my crumble mix is pretty sweet.

    yummy!!
I've got my own flat :j:j

I quite often make crumble with random fruit that needs using up. When the family ask me what fruit it is I call it "jumbleberry" (nicked that off Nigella)
    weaving through the chaos...
  • I often make peach crumble with value tinned peaches, my lot love it, and it costs about 50p!

Definately! One of my favourtie cheapie puds.

Also if I have a tin of pears lurking in the cupboard, they made another cheap crumble. Bit of custard mmm.

I need your help again guys.....every time I make crumble the topping is digusting, it's tastless and either rock hard like a flour biscuit or it's soggy....I can never remember which flour to use and is the fact that I top it over just cooked hot fruit causing a problem....thanks in advance.
I want it to be like the crumble i used to get at school, crunchy
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

    Hi luvvlyjubbly,

There's an earlier thread with lots of tips on making the perfect crumble so I've added your post to it to keep the ideas together.

Silly question here but do you just empty a tin of drained paeches into a bowl & add the crumble mixture on top?

Peel and core your apples, then chop them into chunks. If you have some lemon juice, put some in a small bowl with some water, then dunk the apple pieces in that. This will stop them going brown.

Put the apple chunks into an ovenproof dish and sprinkle some sugar over them. You can also sprinkle a little cinnamon too if you like it.

For the crumble mix, weigh out some flour, say 400g, then you need half as much fat. Rub the fat into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs. Add some sugar to the crumble mix. I usually just wing it, not weighing the sugar!

Sprinkle the crumble mix on top of the apples and cook at about 180/200c for 20-30 minutes.

I just peel, core and chop the apples, put them in a pan with a little water and couple of tablespoons of sugar , some cinnamon and cook gently until soft - 15mins or thereabouts.
If you use eating apples/to make it healthier you can add less sugar or even a bit of apple juice instead of water.
I don't really measure things these days, but if the apples are still too tart when cooked, just add a bit more sugar before cooking in the oven with the crumble topping. HTH
