Definitely peel them. Add 1 dessert spoon of sugar before you put the crumble on. Ring the changes with a handful of oats in the crumble mix or a handful of chopped nuts.
Dried apricots are also nice in apple crumble0 -
Hi boybeck,
I always peel the apples too. There are some good ideas on this thread so I'll add it to the main crumble thread to keep the suggestions together.

Thank you all for your replies. I have never made it before, so apologies if it was a bit of a silly question. I have learnt something today. Trying to teach myself to cook instead of buying all the pre-packaged stuff.0

With the Bramley apple crumble it's really nice if you sprinkle ginger biscuit bits over the top.
I just put the biscuit in a sandwich bag and whack it hard :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Put some cling film over the top and put it in the fridge for up to 48 hours. That is, I wouldn't have it later than Monday evening. It will probably keep longer than that but the crumble tends to disintegrate into mush over time.
Have you tried it cold with Greek yoghurt?0 -
dont keep it too long as i find the topping goes soggy....this has inspired me to get up and make one....lovelyonwards and upwards0

Ive been given a load of apples that aren't really suitable for eating so I thought about making an apple crumble but ive never made one before and was wondering if anyone could tell me the simplest way to make it.
