I do the same as PenelopePenguin, half flour and half oats. I also make sure I use demerara sugar and save a little for sprinkling over the top before baking. ooo I have just remembered, sometimes I put a sliced banana over the top of the apple, before covering with the crumble, and a little desiccated coconut mixed with the crumble adds something special!

Well - it was ok but not as good as my mum makes! The top was nice and crunchy, but it seemed soggy in the middle. Perhaps I did not cook it for long enough? At least it was so easy I can have another attempt.
I used a tin of rhubarb this time (OH's favourite - He ate loads and said it was delicious, bless him). Can I use any tinned fruit, as I am lazy and love storecupboard cooking!0 -

I've just ventured to the supermarket where they were selling fresh raspberries for 87p rather than £2.49. So, I bought 4 boxes with the grand intention of making a raspberry crumble but now realise I have no idea how to do the fruit part!
To "stew" the raspberries what do I do? (Bearing in mind I am clueless in the kitchen). Do they actually need cooking?
Was planning to make it later this afternoon ready for a nice Bank Holiday tea!

I've never made raspberry crumble, but it sounds delicious. When I make plum crumble, I use the plums raw, so think I'd do the same for rasps - they take even less cooking.

I wouldn't cook the raspberries. Just sprinkle the crumble topping on and bake at 180 for 30 mins. You might want to add some sugar to the rasps depending how sweet they are.0

I agree with Penny I don't think you will need to cook the raspberries first.. they are so soft anyway... I like the sound of Raspberry crumble... let us know how it turns out....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I would also suggest you add some sugar or sweetener (urgh) to the raspberries if using sugar or perhaps even syrup this will allow the raspberries to retain their moisture under the crumble too. Don't forget to make sure you have some indegestion pills handy crumble is a killer, I could happily eat a skipful if it wasn't for the consequences.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

Hi guys
Anyone got a good easy crumble recipe? My mums is too dry and when I cooked mine it wasnt quite right somehow, ive also heard of people using oats but im not convinced about this method. What do you use?
What depth do you fill with crumble as im never sure of this either?
Also does it freeze well once cooked with the fruit?0
