Help with a Currys dilemma

Hy all,
Bought a 50" Plasma telly yesterday ( saturday ) from currys and brought it home, set it up etc. I then get a knock at the door this morning ( sunday ) from the Currys salesman saying they had let me go away with the wrong telly and they want to swap it back ?
The model i looked at was on display and i presumed this was the one they put in my car when they brought it out of the shop. There seems to be no visible difference but they say the customer who bought the one i was let away with wants it back and is not best pleased.
I don't want to rip anyone off but surely i must be entitled to some form of reccompense etc, it took me ages to set it up ?
The one i bought was a display model so must be some room for movement there ?
Oh by the way i say bought, i havn't actually paid yet so would the threat of cancellation work, the telly etc was worth £1089.00
Has anyone has any experiences similar to this ?

how come they let you take a tv away without letting you pay for it?
are they offering to swap it for an exact same model?
did you get a discount already for it being the display model?

    Hy
It was one of those buy now pay april 2009 deals, i had the money to pay but thought i may as well earn the interest till april if they were serious.
I got no discount for display model ( i did try believe me ) but feel i am in a better position for some discount being applied.
    Hello again
  • It sounds like the one you got is probably a similar model, i.e the other one has built in digital or is uprated or something like that and whilst identical is worth slightly more

You have contracted to buy the other model and that is what you are entitled too, recompense is a joke tbh, your entitled to be put back to your original position which the other TV will do and tbh your attitude suggests to me you know fine you got a better TV here and are taking the !!!! a bit

There quite entitled to expect to swap the TV you paid for, at best you might get them to deliver it and remove/set them up

You have no legal right to this TV and you would most likely be laughed out of a court

and you cant cancel unless its in the contract

If you read the opening thread you will see i am not taking the !!!! as you imply,
It took me ages to set it up and lets face it could you tell the difference between one black samsung 50" telly and another cos i sure can't.
I am not after a free load or anything but i won't be messed about either.

As the telly is not the one i should have been given i therefore hold no legal claim to it, however if they wish to collect it they can, off my front lawn in the rain

Could you agree to the swap with the proviso that they send someone to set the replacement one up for you?

Its not skippy2roo s fault they gave him/her the wrong tv. if you are prepared to swap thats fine. get them to bring you out the model you wanted and set it up there and then. if not tell them you are on holiday for 4 weeks and they can sort it out when you get back. I would expect they will not want the hassle.

lol @ "the legal right" iamthesmartestmanalive.

thats precisely what you want though

Tell Currys to come and collect it with your replacement and fit your replacement at the same time - problem solved

Instead you seem to want to make it difficult or boost your circumstances here when you have no right too.

2 wrongs dont make a right afterall

As for putting it in the garden, feel free but trhat would just show you up as the money grabbing !!!! you are

You have a right to the TV you bought, but you seem more concerned with getting something extra than solving the problem, one which could be sorted in 5 minutes

Personally, I would tell them to take the TV but would tell them to send someone to come and setup the replacement for your inconvience.

I think thats about fair really.
