Looking at the above list, I am the oldest by a good fistful of years.
Not in debt, but that was because I chose not to have the life that debt would have bought.

Scrimped, missed out, stayed in instead. So no fun times, no holidays, no activities, no life, scraped by, no new clothes, no new things, no technology, no gadgets. No dating, so single. Makes you wonder if I did the right thing after all, eh!

At least you all enjoyed getting your debt! And they can't take those memories away from you.

I know what you are saying - I did have fun when I was running up the debt definately, but once the bills started rolling in and the reality hit me that I would have to pay it all off and then some, plus the 2 years it took me to get debt free - I am not sure it was worth it for a few good nights out. Ultimately I have nothing to show for the debts, just a few good memories which are albeit a bit hazy!

I am pleased I got into debt, but I am pleased at what I learnt throughout the whole process, about myself and about the value of money - that has set me up for life, and I am thankful for that.

    xx

I know what you mean, although I am travelling at the moment so my entire 20's havent been a waste, I know that my 30's will be completely different - although the thought of reaching 30 scares me, let alone 30+.

I'm 30 and i've been in debt with over drafts since uni. at 18. I also had my first credit card at 19/20 and defaulted. I only owed £25 on it but I couldn't pay. So sad.

Hehe. I dont mind the turning 30 part, its just what comes after that  . You know that I would say, do it do it do it, this has been the best experience ever, and I am so pleased being in debt didnt stop me. And my coming home wont put an end to my travels as much as I would love to have my own house by the time I am 30. (?).

It is great here though, I love it. Havent been to Welly yet, heading down there for a weekend in a few weeks.

Oh yes definately, although I find I tend to block out the bad parts and only remember the good, so I think in my own mind I have glamourised my debt experience!

I am not coming home with a penny of debt that is for sure.xx

Same old story is that most of us have started off with the credit the minute we could get our hands on it (18). I wonder why it is that we all view getting credit in this way? I remember I couldnt wait to have a credit card, but I know I didnt really understand them (?) and the interest etc. I know that sounds dumb but I was very very naive!

Hi peeps, can i be Mommy then to you all. I am 48, And been in debt for longer than i care to remember. Another yr and i will out of it. If i can keep my head together. And i will. I enjoyed some of the getting into debt. But most i did not. We hopefully get wiser as we get older. And dont forget we did not have a site like this way back then. If we had then maybe many more of us would not be in the pickle we are in now. ANd also we did not talk about our debts. Iy was always a taboo subject. How fabulous is this to be able to support each other now. xxxxxxxx

Is he travelling or on hol? The south island was fab although ChCh has a bad reputation for some reason..

Well, thats the plan anyway, but I do wonder if I'll have enough money for the last part of my trip - will have to have though as I cant come home with no money. Cant move back in with parents but thankfully a friend has offered me his sofa when I get back, in London too, so just hope I can find a super duper job asap. I wonder how long I can take him up on his offer for, hehe.

I will do - although I am more likely to bump into Shortland Street 'celebs'. (I cant believe it is still running!).

Thanks hun, I'll keep you all posted too. Am keen for a mini DFW meet when I get back, it was meant to happen before I left home but I didnt get my !!! in gear i time.

    xx
